Bodah Bodah:
Also no extra seats for the Bloc to pick up, the biggest positive for me.

EyeBrock EyeBrock:
The big thing here is that 30 seats in the ROC will diminish the overly represented voice of Quebec.

This will also mean that Quebec will be less crucial to a majority, be it Liberal or Tory.

This isn't a Quebec bash, it's just acknowledging that things have changed. 30 seats will definitely change the dynamics of Federal politics.

Agreed guys.

Duceppe needs to realize that the world does not revolve around the Bloc. :lol:

They're already screaming mad at the bill;

current-events-f59/bloc-vows-to-fight-tory-plan-to-add-house-seats-t88472.html

Frankly, I don't care that much about Quebec losing representation, I'm just as interested in seeing some sort of balance between the Prairie provinces and Maritimes. It's ridiculous that they are all so over represented and the West is under-represented by comparison. I mean come on, 1 MP per 35,000 citizens?

I agree Boots. PEI has the same population as Burlington, Ontario yet has 4 MP's? That's crazy.
The Senate should be the place for artificial over-representation-for-political-reasons, not the elected Commons.

There has to be a better way to do this MP-to-population rate.

On the bad side is that the cost of government just increased substantially.

Adding 30 MPs isn't going to add all that much to the budget in the whole scheme of things. At most, it'll add a hundred million or two to the budget, which is petty cash for the entire annual budget. I know it sounds like a lot, but it's probably less than 1/2 a percent of the entire budget. The offset in representation is worth it IMHO.

hundred Million here, hundred Million there later, another hundred mil down the road until its into the billions. This is how we end up in debt. Combined accumulation of "Oh well its not much"
