Well I tell you what andyt, it's not just the driver... it's the company they work for.

Sure I have a clean license, and get the best discount one could get with ICBC.

But the company I work for is also very responsible and requires that of it's drivers.

Here is a pic of my rig.

Kind of odd, transferred from Alberta to BC with this company, run my web hosting company http://www.VancouverWebHosting.com and opening a restaurant http://www.rallys.ca soon in Langley.

Kind of hard nailing down what I do for a living when asked.

May even be considering Owner/Operator running to California if the contract offered is good.

Jeez, you're kinda the energizer bunny. Who have you got running the restaurant? Do you or that person have experience in that area. Pretty high risk, and if you're not running it your self, I hope you trust the person who does not to put their hand in the till. Good luck with it, maybe I'll check it out some time, ask for the CKA burger.

poquas poquas:
The news article says nothing about anyone else involved nor does it begin to imply a cause. It's a "slow news day" story. Tragic, but nothing special at the moment.

...get your reading glasses out.

"Road and weather conditions were NOT contributing factors in the accident, police said."

...and they are looking for witnesses. Duh.

Speaking of "duh".....

She fell asleep.
She was drunk.
She was drugged.
She avoided hitting a bear/squirrl/butterfly.
She missed the turn because she's a terrible driver.
Her car's tire fell off.
She committed suicide.
Aliens tossed the car.

Pick one.

My point being there is a substantial LACK of information at this point. It's really not news...yet.

We had a similar incident actually happen to us 5 years ago on the way to Merrit from Kelowna.

My family has always been a group of speeders, routinely doing anywhere between 15 and 25 over the speed limit when conditions permit. That day we were going at 140kph when a transport truck started passing us. We were going downhill, and the road stated to curve left, and the truck started swerving into our lane. We hit the brakes and went as far right as we could. Ended up hitting the cliff face at about 30.

We reported it, went through all the interviews and investigations. We ended up getting a speeding ticket, and never a word on who the driver was.

...and here is another one. Driver was driving to fast, or to tired or his turbin fell over his eyes (standard BC trucker joke).

Regardless, the end of an nice Peterbilt, and the trailer disintegrated.

This was on Hwy 5, south bound, going into Merritt, BC.
