Wow! What a GREAT DEAL the HST is! Since higher taxes have such wonderful benefits maybe they need to triple the HST and TRIPLE THE BENEFITS!!! While they're at it they should raise the income tax to 95% for everyone! Just imagine how great things will be in Canada with such wonderful tax rates to increase productivity and prosperity!

Harmonizing the sales taxes is probably the right thing to do, as long as lower income people are protected from the impact by tax cuts. I signed the petition against it tho, because of the lying way it was brought in.

This particular post is virtually spam. Given the poster's name it looks like he/she is a shill for either the BC government or the Vancouver Observer.

My wife and I are seriously thinking of moving back to Alberta from Ontario. With the crap job market, higher taxes year after year, and now this, we aren't sure staying here is an option any longer.

jobmarket here sucks just as bad

Oh it's a big benefit for businesses all right.
I can now remit the taxes I didn't have to pay before and get refunded several months later.
#1 BIG PRO-HST LIE: companies that bought parts to make things were exempt from the PST on those parts. They will now pay 7% more to buy them. It doesn't matter if or when 'refunds' happen; it still COSTS 7% more. Not LESS.
I mean fuck the shadowy 'future refunds', if it cost me $50 for that hard drive I have on the shelf for $69, and it's going to cost me $53.50 for the next one the price is sure the fuck not going to go down is it?
Because I now have to lend the gov't 7% of my capital FREE, I'm going to cut my take even more to save you money. Are you NUTS? Are they?
#2 BIG LIE - JOBS: companies DID pay PST on machinery and equipment. They now get that money refunded. They'll have a 7% incentive to kick your ass onto Welfare and replace you with a more productive machine. Jobs? For who? The guy in China who makes those machines? Cuz we sure as fuck don't make them here!

Business gets the HST refunded on them, whereas before it had to pay the PST with no refund.

To be fair, (and I like to take every chance i get to slag Harper) the Liberals before him were also pushing a harmonized tax - it didn't start with Herpes.

The BC tax forms for the 2010 tax year will now be simplified too.

1) How much did you pay the federal gov't in income taxes?
2) how much do you have left?
3) Send it in.

You sure you got that right? You're saying that previously intermediate level business paid PST on supplies and then charged PST on the finish good as well. So every item was tax as many times as it was processes.

HST won't create jobs outside government construction contracts, but it will help balance the budget. On paper.

Conservatives are big on cutting taxes, but constantly cutting taxes eventually will hurt the economy.
