While not a bad movie, albeit completely far-fetched, it was not Best Picture material.

"Hurt Locker" got so many Oscars for politically correct reasons. The woman was a director and the movie was anti-war in a subtle way. I was really surprised that the movie about the abused black girl didn't win for the same reason of political correctness.

I've seen Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds, Avatar, District 9 and a few of the other nominated movies and in my opinion Inglorious Basterds was by far the better of the bunch with Avatar right up there too. To me the lead actor in The Hurt Locker wasn't believable at all and his character was too cliche...insert troubled soldier here...yawn.

The bold in your post is why the Oscars are a farce. 90% of their big winners are because of PC bullshit.

Like when "La vita e bella" beat out "The Red Violin" for the best foreign film. :?

I can't comment on that as I don't watch too many foreign movies. The last foreign movie I saw was the Kite Runner and it was an amazing story.

Sadly, your comment can rate a death sentence in most of Afghanistan.

No doubt heavily subsidized and was only seen by the families of those who starred in the movie. 8O

Reality check
For soldiers, Hurt Locker sets off explosions of laughter.

Oscar favourite's admirers don't include those who actually do the job - defusing or destroying makeshift bombs.

Any movie is going to have people who are experts in the subject matter "laughing" at the inaccuracies. That doesn't detract from the quality of the film. Braveheart is laughable to anyone that knows Scottish history, but it's still a brilliant film.

Better off to watch Rob Roy.

Braveheart was entertaining - like Brigadoon but with a lot more blood.

The Hurt Locker wasn't a bad movie. I enjoyed it but it was predictable. Avatar was a cool experience, mainly because of the 3D.

Inglorious basterds was a bit of a let down for me, I expected better. The Austrian Nazi guy made the movie.

Lot's of experts created by that movie. The other bonus is now reporters can pad their stories with movie references.

Speaking of stories, HT should bring back Danger UXB.

I loved that show!!

So many great UK dramas from the 80s. "Minder" would be the other one I would love to see again.

While I enjoyed the visual experience of Avatar I thought the story to cliche, predictable and preachy. Although I haven't seen The Hurt Locker I just rented it so here's hoping.

For me Inglorious Bastards was a huge dissapointment. Other than being uber violent I thought it had none of the redeeming qualities, that Tarratino films used to have. The acting with one exception was terrible, the story was disjointed and I couldn't figure out if I was supposed to laugh or cry when Brad Pitt started speaking. 8O

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was disappointed by that movie.
