"People can choose the tactics that they like," she said, saying police were responsible for most of the violence.

There were reports quickly on social media sites that protesters rolled marbles onto the street to disrupt mounted patrols and also threw acid at police, but officials were not immediately able to comment on the reports that surfaced on Twitter.

If this turns out to be true, I hope that the police grab these shits and put a few of them in the ground. This has nothing to do with Charter Rights, only criminal acts.

Scape Scape:
This isn't a protest, it's an excuse for hooliganism. Lock them up.

My thinking exactly.

I'm all for free speech, but once you start assaulting passers-by and breaking windows, it's jail time.

Hyack Hyack:
I'm guessing you didn't read the whole story.

$1:
On Friday, the day the Games began, more than 1,500 marchers opposed to a variety of things, demonstrated as the torch run ended and the opening ceremonies were to begin.

Still not that many when you think about the amount of troubles they have caused opposing the game, and the amount of attention the media has given it. The news made it sound like half of BC was up in arms against the games, and less than 2,000 protesters show up?

A hundred people got violent, while hundreds did not and left once the violence started. As usual we've got to wonder how many police agent provocateurs there were among the violent - it's certainly something that's been seen before. But, arrest the numbnuts that are violent, leave the peaceful marchers alone. I disagree that property damage is OK - that's violence too. Blocking roads, as long as it's done peacefully is OK tho.

Blocking roads is a violation of other people's charter rights, but I guess that doesn't matter.

Given the history of these assholes, I don't think they needed agent provocateurs to set them off.

Anybody who finds the need to go to a peaceful prostest fully masked and hooded, isn't there to make a statement, they're there to cause trouble in the extreme.

Absolutely, but among those masked and hooded are the provocateurs. They've been outed in other demonstrations, no reason to think they're not among these guys.

If that were a fact, then you'd be rolling in the aisles laughing about how the cops were beating the crap out of their own people.

But in fairness I do remember the instance you're talking about and the Surete du Quebec did place people in the crowd, but I don't think they were instructed to start a riot, despite what the rioters said.

These people don't need help from the police, they're professional rioters who've made their names instigating violent protests in places like Seattle, and Vancouver.

Financing who? The provocateurs are police getting their regular salary. I doubt if the regular shit disturbers need any financing, it doesn't take much money to go and break stuff.

...and the upside?

It only lasts for three weeks and all the retard protestors can take their asses home... unless they join the welfare population because they can't afford the bus fare back.

Exactly. It's only 3 weeks, the protests give those of us not watching the games* something interesting to read about, and most of the violent protesters are already living here and probably on welfare already, so not much will change. Gives the cops a good excuse for their $1 Bil security budget too.

*the one exception is if Paradis wins gold in the downhill.
