PublicAnimalNo9 PublicAnimalNo9:
But I guess you'd still feel the EXACT same way if that was YOUR son on the ice convulsing away from serious head trauma right? You'd just do nothing and explain to your wife and son that it's just the nature of the game right?

Your damn right I would. I would be upset at a bad hit and would also want justice , funny thing is none of that makes it the right decision does it.?

PublicAnimalNo9 PublicAnimalNo9:
Let's say we were playing a game of pick-up hockey on a pond and I elbowed you in the head like that, what would your reaction be after?

Get up and fight would be my reaction, of course that would be right after the "woah should have kept my head up" thought. Your all missing the point, the hit was bad yes, bad enough to over react and kill this guys career, no

Lemmy Lemmy:

As a ref, you should know that suplementary discipline has nothing to do with refereeing. The call on the ice, whether you call it an elbow or a head check or a straight match penalty is what it is, but only applies, from the ref's perspective to that game.

I agree yes, but the fact that you keeping heraing "crack down on heavy hits, crack dwon on head hits, crack down on hitting near the boards" proves they are trying to take all the hitting and force out fop the game.

Lemmy Lemmy:
Nobody wants to take hard clean hits out of the game, but as a ref, you should know that there are very few circumstances when an injury comes from a clean hit.

But thats just the problem, they are creating such a negative reaction to hits that they are in effect removing them from the game, i have seen no less then three good clean hits result in suspensions. there just doing it roundabout so they dont get shit on. lets face it though, kids are bigger, faster, stronger, even clean hits are producing injuries now adays

And I disagree. What they're trying to do is get rid of the hits that come from a lack of respect for the health and well-being of the opponent. Specifically, that means head-checks and checks from behind, charging and boarding.

We'd have to have specific examples. If a guy is injured on a hit, then it probably isn't a clean hit. I see that all the time on the ice where a guy gets drilled and I call a penalty and the coach says "It was a clean hit" and I reply "The fact that the guy is dead on the ice tells me it wasn't." In my opinion, boarding and charging are the two penalties which fans and coaches (and even some refs) understand least. It's simply not a "clean hit" if the guy got driven into the boards. It's boarding.

Thats your opinion and your welcome to it, IMO there taking out hitting cause parents, the ones who pay for everything wont put there kids in the little leauges for fear of the same kind of hits, and if there's no players in the little leauges the NHL will dry up mighty fast. So to ensure there is players, they are giving out ridiculous suspensions and fines for anything that is bad PR, such as a crushing legal hit. Ill bet my bottom dollar that if that kid haden't gone into convulsions on the ice then His suspension would be no where near as severe as it is, anyone who thinks other wise is lying to themselves. The NHL is protecting the PR image and thats it, yes protect the players but dont change the fundamentals of the game while doing it.

I tottaly disagree with the " if hes hurt it wasnt a clean hit" theroy. I have seen many many clean hits that destroy a guy who is simpley a pussy.

There's a difference between "hurt" and "injured". People rarely get injured by clean hits. People get hurt all the time by them.
