Stemmer's rants smack of xenophobia...it's not about cars, the industry or economics, it's just a banal temper tantrum.
Getting back to the topic - this has to hurt Toyota, without a doubt. We're in the market for a new car and the arrogance of Toyota dealers is astounding. I'm not a fan of most car salespeople at the best of times, but this recall should take the edge off Toyota's inability to deal on cars.

My one complaint about Toyota - their superior product has made them arrogant. This may cut them down to size a bit.

poquas poquas: If anything involves slagging the Japanese, you can count on Stemmer to pile on. I can't help wondering if he has another agenda. The article is regarding the accelerator pedal sticking but Stemmer is determined bring up his old chestnut regarding a rusty frame. I guess it would be unfair to mention the massive Chrysler recall that was just in the news. One might think he once had a Toyota with a rusty frame... now he's all bitter like.

commanderkai commanderkai: Gunnair Gunnair: If remarking on the quality of my Toyota product vice Stemmer's uneducated prattle is feeding your perception then so be it. Alright. $1: Actually, heed your own point since you're harpooning the protectionist Japanese without remarking on government bailouts of GM and Chrysler. Actually, I never took a stand on anything. I never said the bailouts were right, or what the Japanese did was wrong. All I said that there have been actions by the Japanese government in favor of the Japanese automakers that can compare to what the American (and Canadian) government did to the US automakers. Actually you did. You brought up protectionism by the Japanese without balancing it with the government bailouts of two of the big three in response to my original post.

I agree about the arrogance - each trip to dealerships brings about a salesperson's usual song and dance about superior reliability/quality (despite the fact that Toyota isn't even #1) and even though Toyota's Canadian sales are down, very little dickering off the MSRP. I can even understand the stance when its backed up, but the recall will take care of that tactic pretty fast.

Well, my Tundra has a lot going for it - really good power, good mileage, nice styling, but damn it, pricey! Funny thing though. When I was buying the canopy for my truck, the store owner, who has a 2008 GMC, was some jealous of my Toyota. Same with my neighbor who bought a 2009 GMC - wanted a Tundra but couldn't afford it. A guy I chatted with in a parking lot who owned a big 2007 Ford F350 was all over my Tundra. Whatever else is said, the get a lot of good attention.

Why do you always turn these threads into personal attacks? What have I ever done to you personally to warrant these attacks? I wonder if you would be so brave if we stood toe to toe somewhere... Now kindly stop this childish behaviour...

Now kindly stop this childish behaviour... You complain about personal attacks but then nonchalantly drop the hint that you would beat him up in person? PLUS you throw in the childish behaviour complaint? A while back I was looking at a new car. We explored Toyota, but came away with the Mazda. We even got better treatment from GM, who seemed to have turned a corner in customer service; I had two dealerships secretly competing with one another and both gave me deals below the MSRP within a few bucks a month of each other. But Mazda trumped them all. Anyway, I hope Toyota too can turn that corner, they have a lot of money invested in southern Ontario and that means quite a bit in today's economy.

Once upon a time we had an Acura RSX Type-S that we got regularly serviced at a Toronto area Acura dealership. The smug arrogance that rolled out of that one particular dealership was so astounding it could knock a buzzard off a shit wagon. Sure, Acura makes a wonderful automobile, no doubts there, but the smug superiority of the staff at that dealership was enough to make you want to buy a Pontiac Parisienne, wrap an American flag around it and smash it through the dealership window singing "Gimme that old time religion".

Threats, huh? Whatever, E-thug. You chastise me for calling you out, then threaten physical violence and then hypocritically insult me? Get lost. $1: Now kindly stop this childish behaviour... Hypocrisy much? All you do is whine around here like a 8 year old swiped by a dodgeball at recess. Cry on, e-Thug, cry on

Now kindly stop this childish behaviour... Toe to toe? It's possible Stemmer only wants to dance, but I doubt it. That post is beyond childish. It's pathological, and that’s coming from an expert in diagnosis. To consider Stemmer xenophobic is to gloss over the probable true intent. As I said earlier, if it’s Japanese, Chinese, etc, Stemmer is there to find fault. I certainly hope he was able to read the recent review of the GM’s saviour, the Camero in the Canwest chain of papers. The review was especially critical about the fit and finish quality. Much like what I said after my son went for a test drive in one. Maybe it was made by Chinese or Japanese workers, eh Stemmer?

I simply meant it is very convenient to hide behind the veil of the internet and hurl insults. It is very unlikely they would do so in a face to face situation...

No one is hiding, e-thug. You threatened physical violence because you can't articulate yourself. It's juvenile, pitiful and the last refuge of a over-matched mope.
Interesting, poquas, maybe stemmer should take a break from internet forums and seek help?

While he’s backing down from what was certainly a threat, the problem is obvious. I know a couple of very competent Psychologists and Psychiatrists in Halifax if he’s looking for a referral.
