Despite being as far north as parts of Canada, NW Europe enjoys a much milder climate. That's a well known fact...

But in case you're limited education limits yours understanding in this matter, look at a globe and tell me that London, which is pretty close in latitude to Calgary, doesn't have warmer average temperatures than Calgary throughout the winter months.

Or better yet, read up on this;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Atlantic_Current

duh , you made a comment that Europe is under a warm spell ..it's not.

Can you ever make a reply without an insult?

I never said Europe was having a warm spell. I said this;

$1:
It's kind of like how Europe is a fair bit warmer than it should be because of the ocean currents that bring warmer waters to NW Europe.

That was an allusion to the North Atlantic current, it's not my fault you couldn't understand that. Learn to read bewteen the lines...

Given your snide comments and rude tone in many of your posts, you're hardly one to talk about insulting other posters. :roll:

Is it any wonder everyone here thinks that you're really a former dumbass member (who shall remain nameless) banned for his over-the-top rudeness?

Eummm, The Netherlands is going to have a white christmas this year, the first since 1981... Warmer?

Yep, in general, winters are milder and warmer in NW Europe than those at similar latitudes courtesy of the North Atlantic current.

Snow falling this year does not mean that winters in the Netherlands are always colder than they are here in Canada, just like a warm day in Iqaluit doesn't mean it's always warmer than Amsterdam.

Edmonton recently broke records for its cold weather last week/weekend, but the average daily high for those December dates historically is -5, not the -35 temps we had.

Anomalies may happen, but that's all they are anomalies./.

There is no way you can compare The Netherlands with Canada. You can compare it with Vancouver Island tho.

If you want to compare Canada with Europe, Calgary will be like Prague or something. Not like London.

I don't think you can say winters are milder in northwest Europe than they used to be... 3 days of snow is pretty common, and 25 cms is absolutely abnormal.

I agree with you that anomalities happen, and that this is one. In Iqaluit and in Amsterdam. Coincidentally, on the same day :lol:

Of course, we can put on our tinfoil hats :)

Fine, don't compare it with Calgary (bad example I guess), compare it with another city on the Atlantic, like St. John's, which has colder, wetter winters than Amsterdam does on AVERAGE. Even inland places like Germany have, on AVERAGE, milder winters than places like Quebec or the BC interior, which do not have the benefit of the Atlantic current. And milder specifically refers to temperatures, not snowfall.

Sorry, but it's a scientific fact that Amsterdam (and by extension most of NW Europe) enjoys a milder climate than it should at that latitude because of the North Atlantic current.

Like I said to Gigs, look at a globe and you'll see much of Europe is just as far north as many parts of Canada, and yet winters there are far milder than winters in Canada. In some cases, places in Europe are actually farther north (like London when compared to Halifax).

That has always been the case, its not new, so I don;t think I get your point. I also don't think comparing eastern canada to western europe is fair. Might be the same ocean, but doesn't have the same effect on the land. Morocco and Florida or Angola and Brazil dont have the same climate either, do they?

BTW, The Netherlands as well as Germany are not on the Atlantic, but on the Northsea. France, Spain and Portugal are on the Atlantic.

You can compare the latitude and longuitude of Prague with where I am. Same cold, same amount of snow, on average... Land climate is landclimate. Germany still has no landclimate, but a sea climate, because of the northsea.

The big difference between say Florida and Brazil (or Angola and Morocco) is latitude, one is on the Equator, and one is farther north of it, but St. John's and London are pretty close to each in that regard.

I know that the Netherlands isn't on the Atlantic, but the Gulfstream/North Atlantic current still affects its climate to some extent, as it warms the waters there more than they would be if the current didn't exist at all.

That is why I compared Angola to Brazil and Florida to Morocco. Because they are on the same latitude.

I never compared Florida with Brazil, because a) they are on the same side of the same continent, and b) their latitude is different.

Then why is it f*cking -20 where I live, huh?

Actually, I think it is still too cold. We should pollute MORE so the temperature gets higher, wouldn't that be awesome?

Pollution (at least the particulate type) blocks solar penetration and would lower the temp.

Then the solution to man-made gobal warming is more pollution.

Awesome!
