Bariatric surgery is fully paid by Alberta Health Care. Yet, the service is inaccessable because the perform 25 surgeries per year with a waiting list that is over 800 people.
Meanwhile, there are Toronto clinics that are not allowed to set up in Alberta because it is against the Canada Health Act to offer private surgery for publicly funded procedures.
Now, I can understand if you feel that any funding for Bariatric surgery is wrong, that is your opinion to have.
However, don't you think it is bullshit when patients have to leave the province, often leaving the country, when the demand is much hugher than the public system is willing to meet?
