BartSimpson BartSimpson: PublicAnimalNo9 PublicAnimalNo9: 1976 H1N1 "outbreak" 1 death from flu 500 suffered from serious side effects from the vaccine 25 of those 500 died And right there is why I am not taking this vaccine. Again, I repeat, you have MUCH MORE chances of dying from the flu than from the shot. Immune overreactions are very rare.

"Prevalance of Flu: Every year, 10 percent to 20 percent of Americans get sick with the flu (influenza). "
Right off the top proculation they're talking about any flu, not the specific one the vaccine addresses (as you point out it doesn't cover all flu strains).
Further, from your site:
"Prognosis of Flu: Good for healthy adults and children. Risks for infants, elderly, or other at-risk people. "
Even so the numbers on your site indicate that given all flu types that my chances are, as you correct me: 1 in 10-20 of getting it (5-10%) and 1 in about 3600 of dying from it if I get it ....and here's the clincher: no evidence (that i've seen) that the vaccine will prevent it.
But thanks for getting some good stats though.

But thanks for getting some good stats though. Yes you have a point, it's any strain of flu. But, we have to take into account that most people who will get the flu will have the A/H1N1 strain. 94% of people tested positive for flu at Montreal hospitals had the A/H1N1. Source: Minister of Health, Quebec yesterday at CBC. And I again repeat, yes there are evidences that the vaccine will protect you from that strain.

Ok tell ya what. Get the shot. Then let someone that's already infected cough on you and then you can let us know how effective it is

Well so far I have seen no conclusive empirical data that backs up that statement.

The US has granted legal immunity to the producers of the H1N1 vaccine.
Educated guess is that they would not have produced and sold it if they did not have this immunity.
This is one of the best arguments for not getting the shot.

There was a BC study, reported on this site, showing that if you took the vaccine you doubled your chances of getting the flu. Meaning that the vaccine itself was shown to infect people in the study.

Wow, so the only ones getting guaranteed immunity from the shot, is the manufacturer themselves Quelle suprise

This is one of the best arguments for not getting the shot. Just by looking at how people react, I think it's a good thing to stop those crackpots from sueing the companies and stopping the vaccination. There are already cases in France where citizens are sueing the govt. for "attempt to poison the population". They make vaccines every years since decades and nothing happened.

![huh? [huh]](./images/smilies/icon_scratch.gif) So. How ya gonna know if this 'flu shot' actually works or not? Not everyone is going to contract any strain of flu this year, with or without a shot. I'm thinking that the only way to find out if it helps is if you get the shot, but contract the flu anyway, then I guess it don't work, eh? Cuz, if you do get the shot, and don't contract the flu, does that mean the vaccine works, or is it possible that you weren't going to get the flu anyways?

The first legal immunity granted to the producers of vaccines was almost 30 years ago for children vaccines. We're talking vaccines that have almost not changed at all since then so why do they still need legal immunity? To be truthful, the manufacturers either cannot produce a safe vaccine or at least cannot make enough money producing a safe vaccine. Take your pick. I'd rather take my chances with something I know (the flu) then with something I don't know (the vaccine).
