They'll just hire/buy some Euro weenies

Yup, and they will get all the oil as well.

No big loss though.

Oh no! I can't get a Visa to go someplace I would never want to go and I have to seriously question any Canadian's motives for those that do want to go?!

I'm glad the government had the backbone to stand up to this dangerous loony.

It's a pity that the Liberal's just had to get a partisan shot in though:

From todays Toronto Star:

"It appears that once again the Harper government demonstrates that its line is tough for the Canadian public. But when it comes to actually managing these things internationally, not only does it get it wrong but it tends to contradict itself," said McTeague.

So what would a Liberal government have done? You guys wonder why you are losing votes.

No biggie. Plenty of other shithole countries with whackjob assholes running them to visit. Why anyone would want to is beyond me though.

Well he's a terrorist, and clearly Mr.Gadhafi's walls don't quite reach his ceiling if you know what I mean, and he's not losing anything by giving us the finger since it's like No.112 in holiday destinations, not to mention it's a stupid rational for doing it anyways....

...But I still blame Harper and his imperialistic Bush-like policies!

:P

A good reason to visit Libya is to see the numerous Roman and Carthaginian ruins and archaeological digs. Libya is one of the few countries without any real laws regarding their antiquities so you can buy an awful lot of really great stuff and legally export it.

Yea, 'cos they don't give a shit about their own history. Shit nation, shit culture, if you can call what they have a 'culture'.

Not to tweak anyone, but the prevailing attitude amongst Muslims is that anything that is not Muslim is not their culture and it is not worth preserving. For instance, long before the Europeans got into Egypt the Muslims had stripped the polished limestone off of all of the Great Pyramids to use for their various mosques in and around Egypt. In the current day the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt advocates razing all of the pharohnic pyramids and temples as an affront to Islam not unlike how the Taliban destroyed the Great Buddhas of Afghanistan a decade ago.
Add to this that the Libyans are more closely related to the modern day Lebanese than they are to the Carthaginians who are genetically close to modern day Sicilians. What that means is that the Libyans are descendant from invaders who took over the region and colonized it. The native Carthaginians who had survived the reprisals of Rome unfortunately did not survive the Muslim invaders a few centuries later.
Therefore, the history of Carthage and Rome is not the history of the modern day Libyan. It is sad that they do not value history for its own sake but I will allow that they would not be expected to be sentimental about it.

Should the day come that Westerners stand triumphant in Mecca and Medina I hope we have as much sentimentality about Muslim monuments as they have had for others.
