DerbyX DerbyX:
Do you recall me making the point to you that every tax payer should have a little checklist on their tax return where they could tick off where they wanted their tax money to go?

I think that would be an excellent idea and it would really tell us what the public supports and what it doesn't.

I like the idea of a more structured commitment to where money goes, and a more transparent process of reviewing and evaluating how money was spent.

Alas, Liberal majority governments won't like to be compared to your little questionnaire

If you can't afford them, don't have them. Pay for your own damn kids.

As long as our economy is dependent upon immigration it will always be more expensive to bring people in then it will be to rear our own.

I agree with scape.

Let's encourage Canadians to make more Canadians instead of bringing foreigners like me in (I'm Canadian now though and I've done my bit producing 2 more Canadians!).

I'd be for subsidised day-care over immigration. Tax credits for more kids here is better than importing other countries kids into Canada.

Makes sense!

How about extending maternity benifits in place of a national daycare?

I'm not sure which would be more cost effective, but I know which plan would be better for the kids.

Either way, I'm all for making Canada more family freindly.

National daycare aka universal daycare. I like the idea but in practice its just not feasible. Canada's population is spread out over too much of an area to efficiently run such a program.

Even in cities it only brings debt, poor service and waiting lists.

One can only trust Iggy to bring up dead policy that never went anywhere 15-ish years ago and hopes that it will work today.

Only until the CPC run ads showing Chretien, Martin, etc all promising the same thing before and nothing ever came of it.

Are the asses dangling this old carrot in front of the Canadian voters again? What a crock of shit! They had years to implement it and did SFA.

R=UP

I paid for and raised my own kids and suggest all other parents do the same. If I ever feel the 'need' to 'pay' for any more kids, I'll make my own!

Aside from being a total boondoggle just waiting to happen, here's the other major problem..

Once upon a time tax burdens were low enough that you could afford to live on one income. Rather than taxing us more to cover daycare costs, lower taxes and give people the option to stay at home and raise their own kids. We're not ants that are to be raised in a colony.

People should look at the one already established in the province of Quebec. The population is often not made aware of several factors through the media. The costs to the province are simply outrageous. The PQ used the program to benefit their ''friends'' at some CPE as usual.

Only a few actually benefit of the system while the ones that need it most are often ignored. It has not shown to benefit the majority of the population. It is simply another of those bureaucratic programs.
