Harper has a lot of work to do on the debt to be even CLOSE to Chretien in terms of his fiscal record. Harper's deficit makes him, so far, a failure as PM in my books. But the jury's still out...we'll see what he does in the future.
High taxes and keeping the monies from overcharging us on EI is nothing to be proud about.

Also, I never mentioned Chretien's work on crime. He brought out the YCJA to stiffen punishment for violent youth offenders. Harper's talked a lot of talk about being tough on crime, but no results yet.
Those bills have been stuck in the senate for sometime, even Iggy has demanded they get passed. The senate isn't done tinkering with it first.
