Well the church might get a little crowded if they intend to send those boat free loaders that showed up on the week-end. I could understand keeping this guy over them though

Get out of my country. Grow some balls, go home, accept some responsibility for what you have done.
Coward. He has some balls, most than most resisters atleast who ditch before they can go to war. He spent one tour in Iraq. He only dodged the draft when he found out he had to do a second one. Imagine if you will if you got a fiancee and a infant son. You already done a tour and you are fucked up from that tour as all you see is rape, killing, bombings, civilian deaths, the deaths of your brother in arms, etc. The stress goes on forever over there. Than you get a message saying you have to do a second tour repeating all that. Where there is a good chance you could get shot or blown up and never see your fiancee or son again. When it comes to deserters, this one has balls and he atleast has good reason for deserting. Out of all the deserters Canada gets and accepts. This is one that deserve acception. Bollocks. He could have refused to go and suffered he consequences that the Army would have imposed. Bacardi, you really are lacking credibility these days. You are supposed to be in the CF or wanting to get in the Regs? Mmmmm.

You are supposed to be in the CF or wanting to get in the Regs? Mmmmm. Suprise Suprise, another bash by EyeBrock. You know typically when people disagree with comments regarding a debate. They just stick to the debate and disprove them. They don't add in childish insults. Just a FYI. Also the whole lacking of credibility is getting old. Every opinion I make you call be not credible. I can state I don't like peanut butter and you will just simply respond with I am not credible because of that comment. I don't really know what your problem with me is. However I don't care either. First of all regarding the actual arguement you did post (phew). How can he refuse? He joined the army and signed the contract. They army owns him unti'll they don't or his contract is up. They have been putting a lot of soldiers on double tours to make up for lack of recruitment applications and veterns leaving the service. As they have also done in the Canadian Forces. You really think the U.S. government would have taken a simple "No I don't want to go because I don't feel like it"? Really, you actually think they would have just accepted that? The only other way he could have gotten out of duty was get a injury. However he either diddn't think of that or diddn't want to. He obviously felt a obligation to his family. His wife and his kid. Something he couldn't do if he did another tour and wound up dead. Believe it or not EyeBrock but not every vetern who comes back from war comes back a warmonger and wants another tour. Specificly those who have a family back home they want to go back to. He cannot take care of his family if hes dead or in prison. So you suggest that he plays the role of the dumbass parent and take responsability for resisting his duty because the U.S. Government was running low on volunteers and had to force soldiers who did a first tour to do a second and possible third and at the time he would rather take care of his family than go back to war and risk his death where his kid would be fatherless? He sucked it up and got the balls to both join the Army and do his first duty. So nobody here can say he doesn't got any. He did his duty and he diddn't want to do a second tour. You guys are ready to hang the guy for that, it's really just pathetic.

Bacardi4206 Bacardi4206: A whole lot of nonsense and drivel of which I don't have a clue. You really are a slow learner aren't you. My little puppy listens more than you. There is a saying in the army which goes "STAY IN YOUR LANE" meaning don't discuss things which you don't know anything about. Anything military related would be your lane to stay out of.

You should probally listen to me though because I have already told you twice to PROVE MY OPINIONS WRONG. Yet you choose not to. You instead resort to this idiotic comments like EyeBrock does. If you want to set me in my place or wherever you think my place is. It's called a debate. First you take what I said, than you provide evidence as to why it is wrong. Proving I am wrong doesn't consist with the words 'Blah, blah, blah I am a asshole who would rather insult peoples opinions than correct them, blah, blah'.

People who think deserters are ok maybe shouldn't join the regular Canadian Forces. Everybody is entitled to an opinion, but that's not a good one to have in an all volunteer Canadian Military.

I do not think deserters are ok, I never said that. I said this one deserter is ok because his excuse is valid. He signed up, he did a tour. He did his duty yet people state he has no balls. He fled to Canada because he got called up for a second tour. I talk to vets all the time who I meet through video games like Project Reality. They tell me about all the shitty stuff that goes on in Afghanistan that they witness. I even got a family member whos served a couple tours in there and is still active in the Forces. They constantly tell me about how they have to witness young boys being raped by ANA and can't do shit about it. How they ANA are practicly useless and how fustrating it is to get them to do a simple task, etc. All aspects of what is troubling of war. That being said, he did a tour and probally witnessed some really horrible shit. Regardless most people can suck it up and do whatever number of tours is required. However this man has a wife and a kid who he is obviously setting his priority. He can't take care of them aka his priority if he does another tour and winds up dead and he probally thought he would most likely wind up dead after what he witnessed in his first tour. So yeah I can sympathize with the guy and understand why he would do it. I agree with this SINGLE resister, not all resisters. Most Resisters I hear about I can't help but call pussies because they join the military and get rotated to combat and don't even try a single tour before they desert.

Deserters = bad news
He volunteered and he had other options if he didn't want to fight.
I say again:
Deserters = bad news

all in all, I still support the idea of church sanctuary. Anyone that is able to gain the mercy of a church should be allowed to lock themselves up in a church instead of facing jail time.
However, if the system determines that he is a risk to public safety, the church should understand that their doors will be locked from the outside.
