Nope, they are no where near the same.

It would be like saying a kids Tiny Mite trophy is the same as the Order of Canada. That trophy at the guys unit was probably paid for by his friends, and really didnt have any connection with the military at all. They just decided to house the award at the unit so that people could see it as a memorial.

I've been awarded 5 medals. Not once have I ever been issued a weapon during their related duties.

What does having a weapon have to do with anything?

The trophy is at the squadron... and CO approved... and this CO probably will be a General one day.

Over and out.

No.. you don't get it

my argument is if a CO can have a trophy made for a soldier that killed himself in a 100% preventable accident...

That (or any) CO can - later in his career - can have the power to issue this medal...

that is why we need very stick guideline.

Voila!

You havent proved they could/would do this later in his career. You are missing that this appears to be a memorial trophy, not an award; it is meant as a reminder of just the person not his actions. Basically its a shiny tombstone. With a real CF Decoration you have to merit it and it has to be approved by Ottawa. That is why it takes several years if not decades for people to get medals some times.

Simply that they were not considered hazardous missions. These guys that are giving their lives today will, at most, receive 2 medals. One for the mission and one for their life.
