$1:
Polls show public support for abolition of registry
Majority of Canadians agree with Prime Minister that the long-gun registry must go
On March 23, 2009, a Toronto Sun online poll asked, "Do you support Prime Minister Stephen Harper's call to scrap the long-gun registry?" An overwhelming majority, 84 percent, supported scrapping the registry. A survey by Toronto-based CP24 the same day, asked, "Do you think the Government should scrap the Federal long gun registry?" Fully 66 percent responded that the registry should be scrapped, or that it was a bad idea from the outset. Polls run by The Globe & Mail, CTV News, Ipsos-Reid and others dating back to 2002, have repeatedly demonstrated that Canadians believe that the registry is ineffective and should be abolished.

Oh so, majority of Canadians support the long gun registry eh ? Next time when lying, try to back it up a little.

Go ahead and make it a campaign issue.. It will be a wonderful companion to the mandatory minimums.

Curtman Curtman:
It gives the police the ability to seize weapons without first proving that they have been used in a crime. I'm absolutely fine with that. I'm also fine with them having to pay to register them. So are the majority of Canadians.

The only reason the cons haven't got rid of it is because they know damn well it would be a very unpopular move. I think they should though, it will help ensure the usual 2 term Conservative blip, then back to a sane government.

What a load of crap! Since when do cops need any sort of proof when they sieze a weapon? You might want to ask that to the 400 households in Toronto that had their firearms siezed.
The registry hasn't saved one life.

CBC - 20/20 goes after the airsoft gang.

The fact that the cops can't tell what's real dosen't matter because if you wave anything from a real gun to a TV remote control, their going to rightly assume it's real anyways.

And you know this how? Because nobody who would otherwise be dead is now claiming to be alive?

I am in favor of pruning the good apples from the tree so that the only thing left will be the bad apples.

This also explains why there are so few cars on the road. Nobody could be bothered paying registration of a car on top of their licensing fees.

I have an unregistered car in my garage that has a full tank of gas and the keys in the ignition. please call the police and have me thrown in jail for a minimum of 2 years.

Edit: in fact, the biggest insult would be when someone steals the car out of my garage, commits vehicular homicide...and the cops come and arrest me because the laws are more likely to put me in jail than the asshole that stole my car.

.

admit it, if the Coalition for Running Shoes was lobbying for car registration, you'd be reciting the 'right to own property' rants.

You need a license because you drive on public roads. That has nothing to do with owning a rifle to go hunting.

No the biggest insult would be when your 3 year old shoots and kills himself because you thought it would be fun to have a gun.

I guess your life must be very boring if you don't own anything to have "fun" because it may kill a 3yo child.

This type of accident is tragic but no more so than kids playing with lighters and burning the family home down, or playing with a multitude of other potentially hazardous things we are surrounded by.

Quite a weak argument to make.

thats rediculous, I taught my son safe gun handling skills when he was 2 years old. Don't tell me that you would put a gun in the hands of an untrained 3 year old, no wonder you don't like guns.
