stemmer stemmer:
What incentive is their to build a better product if the consumers are buying your product anyway?

Do I REALLY need to teach you a lesson on demand?

stemmer stemmer:

Red Wings attendance was dipping until the Red Wings started to win cups in the 1990's. The same is true of the Penguins. Attendance was dismal until they won their back to back Cups in the early 1990's...

Because Detroit and Pittsburgh are not hockey markets, despite Detroit's self-made nickname. Just like Toronto is not a baseball market, despite selling out when the Jays were winning in the early 90s.

Detroit not an hockey market? One of the original 6!...Do you realize the tradition behind the Red Wings? Behind only Canadiens & Maple Leafs for most Stanley Cups? Have you not heard of Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Ted Lindsay, Sid Abel, Terry Sawchuk, Roger Crozier???

The biggest problem with the Leafs is the Harold Ballard syndrome which still prevails with the Leafs. You could ice a Junior C hockey team as the Leafs and Air Canada would still sell out... Which informs me the Leaf fans know squat about hockey....

Sure, I've heard of those folks, but most people in Detroit haven't. Winning a championship doesn't make a "hockey town"...Tampa Bay won a cup. Dallas won a cup. I lived in Boston for the better part of 4 hockey seasons. Boston is an original 6 town. Boston is not a hockey market.

I already told you, Leafs' fans don't attend the games. They can't afford to. The tickets are owned by corporations and are traded for favours.

Well there sure are alot of players in the NHL from New England and Michigan. I suspect there are more players in the NHL from Michigan then a lot of Canadian Provinces...

Dallas or Tampa Bay do not have the winning tradition of the Red Wings or Canadiens....that's the difference...

So what? Montreal is a hockey town. Detroit isn't. Detroit is a ghetto.

Just because YOU believe Detroit isn't an hockey town doesn't make it true. It's your opinion and you are entitled to it...

Do you really believe because the internet affords you the freedom and creativity to express your opinion, it makes it true?

Michigan is considered by many to be the birth place of "Pro" hockey and the first place to have an all pro hockey team....

I do realize the economy of Detroit is near broke but that should not undermine the rich history of hockey in Detroit...

This deal would never have happened and I'm beginning to wonder if Pocklington isn't well on his way to dementia.

As crazy as Harold Ballard was he would never have given up the Toronto Market. This guy, much to the chagrin of Leaf fans said he didn't care if they ever won another game because he'd always sell out Maple Leaf Gardens and if hockey didn't fill it he'd just put in something else that would.

And time has proven him right.

I believe Ziegler was the President of the NHL in those years... Bettman came later and changed the position from President to Commissioner...
