avoid or dislike tasks that require sustained mental effort, including homework or schoolwork

Apparently just about every damn kid on the planet suffers from ADHD and should be on medication... it's a scam and an excuse for parents who don't want to deal with their kids.

I fucking resent that remark. I work with my son every day. Don't spout off about topics you have no experience with! It's attitudes like yours that stigmatizes the kids who have a legitimate problem.

He wasn't making a crack at you or your son. Atleast none that I can tell. He was mocking how ridiculous that statement he quoted was.

Every kid dislikes and tries to avoid tasks that require mental effort. Infact so do most adults. Every kid dislikes homework and school.

Sorry. I'm a little touchy when it comes to this subject. It is a struggle every day, and to see a remark like " it's a scam and an excuse for parents who don't want to deal with their kids" just pisses me off. He should walk in someone else's shoes before making such generalities.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. I'm not saying that you specifically are a bad parent, I'm sure you give much time and attention to your son. I respect that.

I just have my doubts as to whether ADHD is an actual mental disorder... it's not like there's an ADHD-gene.

Be touchy, you've a right to, it is a recognized condition.

I think though that the schools more so than parents use it as an excuse, it seems to me that almost every kid in the school my wife works in is coded for one condition or another if a teacher has had an issue with them.

The reason they do this is purely monetary, they get more aid hours and hence more staff if they have kids that are coded, ADHD is common but it tends to be the one that alot of these so called educational phsycologists use in the schools to get kids coded and hence a bigger operating budget.

It's a shame because it is used so much that the kids that truly have ADHD are the ones that get the least help throught he schools for it. Kudos to you for spending time with your son and helping him to overcome this diabality, alot of parents are blind to their childs problems.

I would also like to ask, what if anything did they attribute it to before the internet came along.

I seen it first hand when my sons were in the grade school system and the worst offenders were young female teachers trying to coerce parents into having their sons placed on ritalin. Older teachers, of both sexes, never suggested your children should be medicated as they had years of experience dealing with little boys.
