ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
What do people want, a leader with a calm and collected demeanour or someone who runs around like Chicken Little? Screw the rhetoric and judge them on their knowledge and ability. We don't need any charismatic populists at the helm right now.

This I completely agree with.

We now elect our public officials based on superficial standards. We base it on how they smile, what their wife wears, if they don't stumble on the speeches written for them by others and that they clearly don't understand themselves. We pick who we elect based on the BS thrown up by their opposition in filthy smear campaigns all over all of our types of media. (CKA seems to be a favorite for that type of "journalism") We're going to elect the next leader of our nation based on either the Conservative adds on Iggy, or the adds the Liberals are now running? God help us if anyone is swayed by any of that bullshit.

Our elections resemble a beauty pageant far more than a political process. We are about to elect the government we deserve if we continue to base our decisions on such shallow criteria.

With less that 50% of the population voting, I'm guessing that the ones who stay home and don't bother are not the ones who pay attention to politics anyways. Most people can't be bothered to watch the news or read a paper, left alone follow policy and vote.

Zipperfish Zipperfish:
I think we're not doing too bad. Harper and Ignatieff may have the personalities of wet dishrags, but they're both smart as a whip. I'll take substance over style any day.

R=UP.

And for those of us old enough to remember John Turner, Iggy isn't even close. He practically convinced me single-handedly to make one of the worst mistakes I've ever made - voting fro Brian Mulroney...

OnTheIce OnTheIce:
The Liberals (And Canada) need a fresh face in politics.

Not Goodale, not Trudeau, someone with a fresh face, no ties and that relates to people on a down to Earth level.

I'd vote liberal if they could get Ralph Klein.

That would convince me to vote for someone else. He had lots of great one-liners but was an unsufferable prick.

Time to play some Grab Ass. Unlike Turner, it'll probably help Iggy.
