DerbyX DerbyX:

No doubt his tender youth makes things much much better. He had a great year with Boston but he is also still a risk right, especially since we don't get him till Nov because of RC surgery.

Call me paranoid but I hate giving away high draft picks like that.

I'm not saying it's "no risk" but it's one that you have to make. Remember, for every Crosby there's a Patrick Stefan or Daigle. And teams like the Red Wings make out like bandits in the later rounds (with Datsyuk and Zetterberg) anyway.

The Buds didn't hand over Bozak or Schenn or Gustavsson or Grabowski, and as i said before, they still have Kaberle, who could go at the trade deadline for an impact player.

I say let Burke keep at his plan

I hope you (and Burke) are right.

Me too

But, this doesn't mean all is fixed, it just means another piece has been added. More are dearly needed.

Leafs have never done a rebuilding like this in the last 20-25 years.

They have 2-3 top notch picks/prospects in Schenn, Kadri and Bozack. Add to that their killer defence and now Kessel....I'd say it's an excellent work in progress.

Tons of speed and skill. It's been a LONG time since we've seen anything like this in Toronto.

Thats was my point that they haven't done a big rebuilding. My concern is that its too fast. The Leafs have been burned before giving up draft picks. Kessels 21 years though means its a far cry from trading draft picks for a 30 year old though.

Its been a bane of the Leafs in that for years they either just made the playoffs or just missed meaning they get mid range picks.

Didn't the Penguins bottom out to the point of nearly losing the franchise and then win the cup some few years later?

I'm not sure how much bigger you're looking for.

They have a completely new coaching staff with one of the best coaches in the game.

They have one of the best GM's in the business surrounded by some of the top minds in the game.

They have the best goalie coach in the World some say.

They've parted ways with a ton of their core players with only 1 guy remaining and that being Kaberle.

This is a completely different team. A huge amount of speed up front with one of the best blue line's we've seen in ages.

There's no need to worry about the Leafs trading picks. Who was the last Leaf draft pick to turn into a quality NHLer? Wendel Clark? Luke Richardson? Vince Damphousse? They haven't turned a pick into a player in 20 years....until today.

Can't wait for another Habs/Leafs match.
