bootlegga bootlegga:
Oh no, first a possible deal with those awful socialists, now working with those dreadful separatists?

What can Harpocrite do for an encore?

Is that what you call tabling a bill and the other parties supporting it ?
Spin away, spin away.

Again, it looks like Harper is avoid an election because voters do not want it and that it wont help him very much in the long run.

I don't think I'd agree with that. Every day that Harper stays in cements his leadership with Canadians and proves sound leadership. This is the longest lasting minority in the history of Canada and that's worth far more than some bellicose blowhard who's here on vacation.

Talk to Harpocrite. He's the one who's running attack ads saying that the Liberals will work with those awful socialists and separatists, then a week later turns around and does the very same thing.

But it's not like he hasn't gone down that road before has he?

They still the think the Conservatives are terrible at governing and plan to defeat them.
Don't see where he said that. Actions are all that counts.

This hurts the liberals extremely and helps the CPC a lot. Being in bed with the bloc helps defuse his "seperatist" statements and working with them and the NDP helps create a perception of national unity which I believe voters will respond to.

Mr Duceppe said, basicly that Mr. Harper had given what the Bloc has been asking for since, I think, last November and that he would be an idiot for not accepting, then went on to say that the next chance to defeat the Conservatives would be coming at the end of this or next month and that at that time they would not side with the Conservatives.

I suppose that if this is the inch worm way of making this government work, by threatening an election and getting substance from Harper in desperation, then I guess it's a wee bit better than getting no cooperation at all.

It sounds like the only one demanding an election is Iggy.

I agree with that. What was the poll number? Some >70% also didn't see any good reason for an election either.

I don't understand. What would you expect Harper to do ? Bring down his own government because the Bloc will support the confidence motion ? [huh]

They can't decide for the Bloc. Where's the hypocrisy ?

Do you honestly think that this is the only issue Harper and the Conservatives will need the Bloc or NDP's help on for the next three or four years (whenever the next election is supposed to fall - assuming Harper doesn't do another end run around his own legislation)?

If you do, then you're naive.

Accepting their help now is tantamount to a coalition because the next time there is a confidence vote (like the budget), the Liberals won't be there to keep them alive. That means if he caves now, he is in all but name forming a coalition, no matter what you guys think.

I suspect the oppositions call for an election was a feint. We'll see! And leadership isn't getting backed into a corner and being forced into working with others.

$1:
Canwest News reports that the Ipsos-Reid poll it commissioned revealed that "Almost three-quarters of Canadians say they are "truly scared" for the future of the country and a solid majority say they would prefer another election to having the minority Conservative government replaced by a coalition led by Stephane Dion"
Canwest reports its poll results show "The fear touches every region and demographic in the country. The rate was highest in Alberta at 90 per cent, and lowest in Quebec at 62 per cent." Pollster Darrell Bricker indicated that the frightening prospect of a Liberal, New Democrat and Bloc Quebecois coalition government may ironically end up paving the way for the Conservatives to finally get the majority government they have long sought.

Is 3/4 almost all for ya?

(actual results may vary)

This isn't a coalition but parties working together, which is what we all wanted.

Poor poor Iggy. Hope he didn't spend too money on an election that hasn't started.

Iggy has done us a favor - by threatening to try and defeat the government he has caused the nuisance parties (neither of which wants an election) to find reasons to keep Harper in power.

If Dr Ig goes ahead with his non-confidence motion at the end of the month and the two other parties support Harper Ignatieff is going look like a prize chump.

Bloc going to support the Tories eh!

Sure seems like Duceppe is changing his tune. Then again, he's got nothing to lose for the local media will make him look good no matter what.
