Of course the religious twits are going to whine and cry and throw their usual brain-dead hysterics about a movie involving the life of Darwin. That's what they do for amusement and to attract the attention of thoroughly bored passers-bye. But to suggest that they single-handedly managed to scare distributors into not showing it is ridiculous. Michael Moore films piss off practically everyone on the American Right and they always manage to make money hand over fist. Bill Maher's "Religiulous" had wide distribution and made some good cash. "South Park"'s been shitting all over ALL religion for over a decade and they still get more popular and successful with each new season. All in all the suggestion that it's still 1950 and the religious Right will always win just isn't credible.

If this Darwin film can't gain traction in North America it probably no simpler than that the distributors think it won't make too much money so they aren't going to bother with it. This happens to dozens, maybe even hundreds, of potentially great films every year. Modern film industry reality would indicate that, unless the female characters in the film are all portrayed as Victorian era hotties wearing those wonderful low-cut dresses and push-up bras, not too many movie-goers on this side of the Atlantic are going to plunk down $15 just to watch a 2-hour biopic on Darwin that you'll probably see someday on "Masterpiece Theatre" for free. Distributors know their movie-going demographics like the back of their own hands, as it's in their best business interest to do so. If they didn't show interest in this Darwin film then it's because they don't think it's worth their time or money to promote it. End of story.

I love crapping all over the dunce-cap crowd on the American Right as much as anyone else does, but this issue isn't one an occasion to do so. This isn't Hitlerian censorship at the hands of them laughably rotten neo-fascist biblethumpers, it's nothing more than smart business by film distributors. So save your precious anger against the dumb-ass Right for issues that actually matter.

I hadn't heard of the film until now so it would not surprise me if the "controversy" about the film is being ginned up for the free publicity.

Bingo. An awful lot of British-made documentary-type films are more boring than their food and this is probably one of them.

Glue a "Creation" movie poster to a stick, strap on your 6 Shooter, and stand out front a Theatre. It's the American way!
