SigPig SigPig:
PENATRATOR PENATRATOR:
So what got people up in arms over this anyways?

The original assignment that Obama was asking them to do which was "what can you do to help your president". I agree that title smacks of dictatorship type worship, not extreme but the undertones are there. Is it worth all the commotion not really. The problem is the right started complaining about the fact that he is addressing the students at all even though past presidents have all done it.

"Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer!"

I would think that Obama would be smarter than to open himself up to the obvious association his comment brings to mind. I guess I was wrong.

But I'd say that this is probably not too far from the target. Given that Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has stated that people who swear an oath to the Constitution pose some sort of threat to the country (because they place allegiance to the law of the land above allegiance to a person) I'm going to say that Obama's comment is consistent with the mindset of the people surrounding him.

Obedience to a leader is more important than allegiance to one's nation with these folks or else they would not view soldiers, sailors, patriots, and Constitutionalists as clear and present dangers to national security.

I obey my President because it is the right thing to do.

I obey my President because I trust him to act in the best interests of my country.

The Obama crowd takes deep umbrage at the second comment and they consider people who say this to be a threat to the nation. What they want is for people to say and believe the first comment. Frankly, I find THAT to be a threat to my nation.

No, it is relevant to the previous comment and, thus, is not a Godwin.

I am not accusing Obama of being a Nazi nor am I assosicating him with Nazis. I am saying he made a gaffe in opening himself up to the comparison.

That said, I also am observing the fact that members of his administration have stated their difficulties in understanding people who swear allegiance to the rule of law as opposed to the rule of authority.

I think if you were to compare Obama to anyone, it would have to be Satan. Hitler just isn't evil enough.

Actually, as an admirer of Obama, I welcome the Hitler comparisons, becasue it makes it easier to relegate zealots who who would hold this comparison valid as nutbars.

Hello? I'm not comparing him to Hitler. I'm just saying he blew it by opening himself up to such criticism.

You said you weren't and I take your word for it. I was referring to those that would compare him to Hitler. In my opinion, such comparisons are so common, that they're not effective.

I agree on point, but when the man himself feeds fuel to their fire...

Really, with all the attention given to him I guess I just expect him to be better than this. What he needs is someone on his staff to play Devil's Advocate when they proof read his speeches.

This may sound funny, but he should hire Karl Rove. :!:

This is awesome...

Bush sends thousands of troops to die in Iraq and the left wingers protest in the streets...

Obama wants to speak to school children and the right wingers protest in the streets...

You'd think most of those right wingers would still be looking for the WMD's that they promised us.

Actually, Cindy Sheehan is still protesting the same war in the same country but the political party that supported her before is in power now so they yanked her media funding.

She was protesting the Iraq war out at Martha's vinyard while the Obama's were on holliday but the media didn't cover that.

I guess the war is ok now?
