rawmeat rawmeat: Holy Crap, 18,250 murders a year with a population of 44,344,136! That's about two murders per hour 24 hours a day. Imagine if you were a coroner! You would need to set up a conveyor belt system for the bodies to try and keep up.

It's always advisable to actually have a good grasp of a subject before posting on it. It saves red faces at a later date.

Hmmm, a lecture...I did, I was just qualifying that Im not an expert on the subject. Some sources I read stated that its to commemorate civ. deaths. Others Civ. AND Mil. deaths. and others wear it as "a no more wars" symbol. So I assume its the no more wars theme you're against?

Not a lecture, but it's an emotive subject. Personally, I'm just into honouring those who died fighting for our country. I believe political agendas have no place in sullying the memory of the fallen. Again, not a lecture, just my views from seeing comrades killed. Where did you get your views from?

well put Brock; others should not try and ride their ideals in on the coat-tails of such a powerful symbol as the poppy

I believe political agendas have no place in sullying the memory of the fallen. Fair enough. But if someone tells me they're wearing a white poppy next to their red one because they'd like to include a memory of civilians Ive got no problem with that. Acknowledging that a German baby died in no way lessens the memory of Canadian soldiers. EyeBrock EyeBrock: Again, not a lecture, just my views from seeing comrades killed. Where did you get your views from? I meant lecture on how someone should approach posting. But whatever, either way I misinterpreted your tone(like thats hard online )... My views on what?

The article has a very nice picture of Cape Town.. what you dont see is the other side of the hill, where some 1 million blacks are living..... talk about a seige

$1: He told the paper: 'If you have got the money, you can protect yourself.' Most middle class South African can afford 24-hours armed security, electric fences, guard dogs and security beams. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldne ... z0PvlyDSKCI have a co-worker who comes from South Africa and he is white and he can tell you stories that will more then verify the horror that is South Africa. Muggings and murders are far too frequent and the whites are regulated to walled communities. To venture out at night is to put your life at serious risk. There is a genuine case to be made that the white community is a persecuted one but does this show the weakness of our refugee system for the failure of allowing someone to stay in Canada a year illegally? I for one am torn because although South Africa is a situation that is constantly evolving we still need to be able to deport someone who has an expired Visa. What does that say to the people who come and suffer due process?

While I would agree with you, that sentiment is an honourable one - that is not what the white poppy is currently being used for. Nor is it what the White Poppy was created for. And putting it anywhere near the red one is, IMHO, somehow 'dirty'. The Swasitka is a Buddhist symbol, but if you wear one and say 'I only want peace and love in the world' no one buys what they are selling. Intentions notwithstanding, the symbolism is the message.

Hyack Hyack: Canada's decision to grant him refugee status is now being called racist by the South African government. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2009/09/01/10708666-cp.html$1: "Canada's reasoning for granting Huntley a refugee status can only serve to perpetuate racism."
that's fuckin priceless. One of THE most racist countries on the planet calling Canada racist.
