As long as they look like the RCMP/Alberta Sheriff hat, it'll be okay. But if it's something like most Calgarians wear at the Stampede, I won't be able to take them seriously. This is okay;  This is not;

Choban Choban: Water in Calgary is a hell of alot cleaner than Winnipegs. I'm not so sure about that. Winnnipeg -vs- Calgary

Alta_redneck Alta_redneck: Just think about it Choban, there's about a 3 million brown trout flushed down the towels daily in Alberta that ends up in their little lake in one form or another. Oh yeah, it flows uphill all the way to Ontario.

Curtman Curtman: Choban Choban: Water in Calgary is a hell of alot cleaner than Winnipegs. I'm not so sure about that. Winnnipeg -vs- CalgaryCalgary has 3 other metropolitan areas that our water goes through before it reaches Calgary, The Bow flows from Banff (small town)through Canmore (small city) and then Cochrane (small city)how many does Winnipeg have? I lived in Winnipeg for 6 years, Calgary for 15 and I can tell you that whenever I return to the Peg I buy bottled water because I find it has a taste, not to say it isn't safe. We did a tour of all the water treatment plants in town with my kids school, very educational, fact is that Calgary has the third cleanest drinking water in North America. (ps, your link to Winnipegs page didn't work for me?)

I have to say.. I don't really care. Calgary was a nice city to live in, but it was very expensive. I made more money, but had a lot less to take home, and didn't have any of my family and friends there. If you sense any resentment from me toward Calgary, it's only resentment of what the Alberta Advantage cost me, and an expression of what I consider to be a lonely and painful time of my life. Racism seemed to have a much more serious nature to it than it does here as well. People genuinely hate other people it seems, whereas here it's more of a joke. It's disgusting either way though.
But I do think cowboy hats look silly, and I do see some hypocrisy of the big kerfuffle that happened while I lived there about a Sikh RCMP officer wanting to wear a turban.

Quite true on this point, btu some people like the hats and some don't. Your right too that the Alberta advantage was and is an illusion. Truthfully I'd probably have moved back to Winnipeg if I hadn't have met my wife (she's born and bred Calgarian) but she withers like a flower everytime we visit so she wouldn't come with me. I do think that Calgary has change alot in the last few years, but I still prefer this city to alot I've lived in (base brat). You want to see bad racism head to Dartmouth NS. It was rampant when I was there and it went both ways. Peace!

Choban is correct about the cleanliness of Calgary drinking water, even what it lets flow out of the treatment plant downstream is very clean. How long did you live in Calgary? I've lived inside and outside of the city for decades, one thing you forget is that most Calgarians like yourself, same with most Albertans are recent transplants from somewhere else. It's not our fault that they bring their bad attitudes and stereotypes with them. You have no race issues in Winnipeg? It's a joke you say? What does an RCMP uniform kerfuffle have to do with Calgary? That was a national issue.

Funny, I met my wife while I was living in Edmonton. She's from North west of Edmonton but was living in Winnipeg.. So I moved back to Winnipeg and married her. gigs gigs: Choban is correct about the cleanliness of Calgary drinking water, even what it lets flow out of the treatment plant downstream is very clean. I guess if you are in a nice place.. I wasn't happy with the water quality at all in my $1300/mnth two bedroom apartment in the N.W. gigs gigs: How long did you live in Calgary? Edmonton for two years, Calgary for two years. I liked Edmonton very much. I had a very nice place that overlooked downtown for $1100. I was still broke, but making lots of money. gigs gigs: I've lived inside and outside of the city for decades, one thing you forget is that most Calgarians like yourself, same with most Albertans are recent transplants from somewhere else. What does an RCMP uniform kerfuffle have to do with Calgary? That was a national issue. I got the impression that a huge number of those transplants were also bitter about the same things I was bitter about. Winnipeg maybe just seems more relaxed, or something. Friendlier anyway. It's normal for someone on the street to say hi. In Calgary we all stand in the LRT station staring at the floor, and occasionally giving people dirty looks. I'm not saying there isn't race issues, like I said it's disgusting here and there. It just doesn't seem to be as widely accepted that white people are somehow better than these "new" people who don't look like us. Am I wrong about that? I worked with a real estate agent in Calgary, maybe my impression is coloured by that experience..

ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog: they should create a new event for the mounted cops at the Stampede. Roping fleeing fugitives. Wouldn't lawyer roping be more fun , I can just see them bolting out of the shoots wearing a suite and breifcase and running for their lives
