bootlegga bootlegga: To think I was going to Vancouver to escape the heat here in Edmonton... Heat in Edmonton? Does it get very hot there? I always figured its climate was bitter cold in the winter to temperate in the summer.

It was over 30 for the past week and a bit actually. Saturday was +32 (+35 with humidity).
July is the hottest month in Edmonton and I think we average about 6-8 days of +30 or better weather in July. Last year, we had 15, while in 2007, we had only 5. My guess is we'll be above average again this year.

Brenda Brenda: Its pretty "as usual" here... 35-ish for a couple of weeks, with peeks to 40-ish... (funny thing, no one calls that a heatwave, but when it happens in the lower mainland, its news ) I used to live approx 100 miles West of you(IIRC you're in Trail area?) and I can tell you that 40c in the Interior is a lot more bearable than Mid 30s on the coast. The increased Humidity is bad, but then you have to add in the Smog and that makes it near unbearable.

As opposed the dry heat in the interior you get the wet heat on the coast, completely different heat. The air seems so heavy at times lately you can feel it almost pressing around you. It doesn't help that the winds have also been very calm and what little there is is a warm wind not a cool one. Even the overnight temperatures are in the mid 20's lately.

I remember from Holland that 25 was just bearable, and 30 was almost dieing...Lower Mainland must be the same. The humidity today sucked btw, and the amount of thunderstorms I have seen the past week, is way more than all last year!

It was gloriously hot today, and now the sun is below the trees, I'm sitting on the sundeck looking at the lake with the beach less than 100m away. Cool breeze out here, don't wanna even go in the house! I curse this town 50 weeks a year but tonight it really is the best place on Earth

It doesn't help that the winds have also been very calm and what little there is is a warm wind not a cool one. Even the overnight temperatures are in the mid 20's lately. Exactly. The last time I was in Israel we flew from Eilat to Tel Aviv. When we left Eilat it was 45 C and the humidity was about 15%. When we arrived in Tel Aviv it was 33C with about 90% humidity...Eilat felt much more comfortable. Here, the contrast from going from air conditioning, that for some bizarre reason the Chinese keep super cold, and going outside is staggering at times. However, the only time we use the A/C(and not every night) is when we go to bed, the rest of the time we get by quite well on fans.

Yes, 20 foot round 4.5 foot deep personal oasis from the heat. Great for night swims like right now!

Gunnair Gunnair: bootlegga bootlegga: To think I was going to Vancouver to escape the heat here in Edmonton... Did you see the CAPEX parade? No, too frickin' hot that day. It's too bad, I would have liked to, given that this year they chose a military theme. It figures the one year I miss it that they would do that...
