Hutts are no different than anybody else, they drive brand new vehicles. They smoke, drink, play the lotteries and buy cheap crap at Walmart.

If they plan on leaving Alberta to anywhere else in Canada they will have the same problem. The Supreme Court of Canada made a ruling, if they try to challenge another province, the province will just point to that ruling and say "The SCC has ruled that a province can require photo ID"

These folks are a small minority. I wonder if the government would hold when women in burkas want drivers licences.

The Huts were against the photos because they think it has something to do with promoting icons, which apparently they have something against.

Good decision by the court. It's good to see secularism win one every once in a while against someone's dipshit religious battiness. I'd force the issue too over burqa's, hijabs, jib-jabs, and whatever else when it comes to the requirements for government-regulated identification.

Stop barking.

Like the thread on the passport picture, it's all about identification and a photo that dosen't identify the person is no use to anyone.

This part is off topic: I'm tired of hyphenated Canadians or religions that demand we change our values to asccomidate their unique concerns.
This is Canada and that's how it is.

Stop crying and drop the hypocrisy.

You got all pissy over my joke to Xerxes and they were as related as this. A president who made a comment and a PM who made a comment. That was related too.

You just can't resist spouting islamophobe nonsense and you clearly deflected the issue in a manner you claimed I did.

Woof indeed.

In Canada everyone should have a photo on their ID.. drivers license, health card, student card, employee card,, no matter what. and Burkas, like in France, should be banned.. at least having your face covered should be illegal.

Why? Why should we relinquish freedom in favour or religious bigotry? Will the law allow face covering toques? How about Halloween masks? Hockey masks?

Sounds dumb eh? A proper photo ID is one thing. Nobody has a right to drive a car. Thats an earned responsibility but if a person wants to wear a burka or otherwise cover their face then thats their right. To deny this right makes us no better then those who enforce it.

Do we want to emulate their society or provide an example?

$1:
Members of the colony believe that the Bible's second commandment — "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image" — prohibits them from having their photograph willingly taken.

Then don't drive, don't cross the border, and hope you will never need to be identified.
Or just suck it up.

If you live in Canada and want the same rights and privileges as everyone else, then get with the program and follow the rules..other than that ... well you know!

They are with the program. We have no laws against wearing burkas or any other facial mask. In fact I'd say they were pretty damn sure they were coming to a nation that cherished freedom and the freedom to choose.

The Supreme court ruled against them and they have to live with it, tough, we do. Moving to another province isn't going to change anything.

Apparently this applies to only about 70 people. In Saskatchewan, they are not required to have a photo on their DL if they don't want it.
