If they wipe out the US, does that mean that our southern border becomes beachfront property?

No, it means three hundred years of nuclear winter.

We are Canadians. We'd win that, but it would be a 3 way race between Alaskans, Russians and us.

It's time for Obama to stop being punked around by a tin pot dictator and rogue nation...

Not really. As George Bush found out, it's fun to step on bugs but not so pleasant when you have to wipe off the mess they leave on the bottom of your shoe.

Leave Kim alone for now. Eventually his head will explode and the situation will resolve itself on it's own. The only involvment I can see happening in North Korea anytime soon is when the regime collapses under the weight of it's own cosmic stupidity or from rampant starvation and the rest of us have to go in there just to feed what's left of their population.

So roll over and allow punks and thugs intimidate you? Brilliant...

Hard to let it solve itself when he is doing everything possible to instigate war.

Further to that, yes bugs may leave a small mess on your shoe, but when that bug is a wasp (nuke-wielding Korea), and it could sting you (drops the bomb), whereby your allergic reaction causes you problems (thousands if not millions of South Koreans, Japanese, or Americans dead), the option of stepping on the bug doesn't seem so bad. And if it does go Thermal, atleast the bug guts will be cleaned off the bottom of your shoe, leaving you with little mess to clean up.

Well guys, have fun with the war-by-association you'll end up having with the Chinese as a consequence of stomping the insects in Pyongyang.

I thought the last eight years of floundering around in uwinnable wars in alien cultural environments were lesson enough that there isn't much good served in charging around the world picking fights with everything that crawls out from under it's rock just to say "Boo!" at us.

I don't find the guy particuarly intimidating. Bit of a clown if you ask me.

What would you do?

Yeah...just ignore the problem and it will go away? Neville Chamberlain thought Hitler would go away now didn't he?....

If action against North Korean is not taken ASAP this will only encourage other punk dictators and rogue nations to use extortion, intimidation and other bullying tactics....!!!!

Chinese want him gone more than we do. You think they want an unstable nation like North Korea along their border whom they can't control. They'd probably be dropping nukes for any of the same reasons we would be.

I am also curious. You've made the same statements on at least two topics.

What do you suggest? Nuke them? Invade? Will you be there to lead the charge?

The Chinese could have had Kim and his late dad eliminated at any moment they wanted over he last sixty years. The fact that they haven't done shows that they find the Kim family useful to keep around for their own political purposes. The minute Kim goes too far they'll wipe him out, and they won't have to use nuclear weapons to do so. And neither will we. Kim is now what he's always been for the last two decades, a very noisy but still minor tempest in a piss-pot. People shouldn't be so eager to cavalierly suggest using nuclear weaponry, and end up killing millions of innocent people (including people in South Korea and Japan too BTW, not just in North Korea), just to get rid of some obnoxious nut. Let time and nature take their respective courses and the North Korean problem will probably solve itself without atomic megadeath and without any unneccesary disruption for the rest of the world.

A possible invasion of North Korea would provide the distraction China would want so they can invade Taiwan.... So I believe China would encourage the west & USA to do so...

So I am against an invasion into North Korea..

A nuclear strike by the west would not be wise... However we can not sit idly by and risk the chance this mad man may launch a strike into Japan or Hawaii...

I like the idea of some sort of covert action that assassinates this thug. He must be put down like any wild, rabid animal... Then the west could win the support of the North Koreans by providing them with aid... Time is of the essence and Obama must be a Churchill and not a Chamberlain... Obama must now put aside words and diplomacy, replacing them with some sort of covert action...

I don't do Utopia, I'm too busy living in reality. I'm also old enough to remember when most American conservatives agreed that nuclear weapons were a terrific thing to never have to use instead of recklessly speculating that they could somehow be used as an antiseptic or scalpel on regimes we currently find distasteful.

Explain why you think that millions potentially dying in an atomic exchange between the US and North Korea is preferable to the current state of affairs. The North Korean populace is going to suffer regardless of what path is chosen so tell us why a quick and fiery atomic megadeath is better for them than a slow starving disease-ridden death.

Also explain where the soldiers for this next great crusade you apparently favour are supposed to come from because the current roster is all tied up in Iraq and Afghanistan. No fantasy-land belief in American exceptionalism is going to be translated into a justifiable belief that your mere 40000 troops in South Korea are going to be sufficient enough to cross the DMZ to kick a mudhole in Kim's ass and then walk it dry. The last time I looked even the neo-cons responsible for elevating every mosquito bite into an existential threat weren't advocating a return of the military draft. So please explain where the probably several hundred thousand US troops that would be required are supposed to come from. Are you advocating a return of the draft to provide the necessary amount of soldiers to knock off Kim Jong-Il and then garrison Norht Korea in perpetuity? If you aren't ready to get that dog ready to hunt then I can't take you seriously.
