Bodah Bodah:
I always find it ironic, the people that are the most critical of police actions. Are usually people that wouldn't last a week out on the street as a cop.

They'd also be the first to call them if they needed them.

poquas poquas:
kenmore kenmore:
Sorry Brenda, but this happens a little too often.
The Canadian Mental Health Association and the Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse's Assoc. have be advocating to have Police trained in dealing with these clients and they just don't bother. Its a case of shoot and ask questions later or kick the living crap out of them and drop them off at an emerg dept. Pisses me off!

Pure and utter Bullshit!

I'm one of those people that HAS TRAINED those police officers how to handle a mentally incapacitated individual in three different provinces.
Maybe you should spend a little time in the field with the cops you seem to hate so much. Pulling out a gun is an absolute last resort.

Your attitude really pisses ME off.

And I'm one who's been trained. This is now an SIU investigation so there will be no press releases.

But, at an outside guess, either this guy was armed and threatened to kill someone or he was armed and tried to kill an officer.

Contrary to popular belief cops don't kill emotionally disturbed people for the fun of it.

And poquas, I can tell you that people like you giving the police the training they need has probably saved countless lives and altered the whole way we look at and deal with emotionally disturbed people for the better of all involved.

In my service we now have a joint unit with cops and crisis nurses/social workers working hand in hand with people in the community who need our help.

Remember mentally challenged men are just or more dangerous than your average Joe. Greyhound anyone?

I grew up with two mentally challenged children that my grandmother adopted, the strength of the girl who is my age was insane. She had random panic attacks that would make her go ape shit. Broke everything she could get her hands on, and that included anyone who got within her grasps. It is scary, real scary so if a cop is confronted with someone in that state I can see a gun being fired

Not really. That's why I come to CKA to post and respond to people. Why do you come here?

And you would be wrong. It's not surprising, you don't know me. You can't make judgements about people that you've never met because they don't laugh at you on the internet.

wow 2nd page of the topic and already ppl attacking each other in ways that do not deal with the topic. Why am I not supprised.

With out all the info hard to tell what happened but obviously the man attacked the cop in some way causing him/her to pull their gun and fire. Easy for hindsite to judge the police but from what is said in the artical sounds like the police officer was defending his/her self.

Because the SIU are investigating we won't hear either side until they have done their bit.

Gee ...you never hear this sort of outrage whenever the cops shoot someone in Texas.
