if you can store him under your seat in a kennel...

Baby's under 2 can fly on your lap. 2 years and a day and you pay 50-75% of the regular price. Even with AC, you get a discount.

Hmmm.. we had to pay full price for him with Westjet and we had to pay full price with Air Canada to Vancouver.. the only airline that cut us a deal for the 3 grandchildren was British Airways on our trip to Ireland

The allergy and annonyance factors of having a pet on a plane are pretty much a non issue to about 99.0% of the travelling public. It's the other .01% who when they discover a pet onboard have a great reason to validate their life by bitching.

First off any pet has to be in a "certified" pet carrier, ie, a soft sided sherpa bag or something along those lines, which is approved for pet travel by the airline. This bag is made to specifically fit under the seat and limits the amount of dander released to the air.

As for the annoyance a pet causes, anyone who'd take a pet on an airplane without properly sedating them according to a vet's recommendation is just plane ignorant. If you pet causes an annoyance the airline has the right to have you and your pet removed at their next destination stop, same as for unruly people.

I'm guessing most people have unknowningly flown with pets and never suffered the indignity of anyphalactic shock or a nervous breakdown, unless it was from that unwashed, obnoxious, overweight guy who always seems to sit next to them.

You know what pisses me off about this, I just booked a flight through my airmiles and of course we had to go with AirCanada because there were no seats on Westjet available to the airmiles program. We had originally planned on taking our new puppy but because we booked with Air Canada we had to change everything and get a kennel booked for him which we really didn't want to do because he was so young and because it was a pain in the arse to find one. Our flight leaves on June 26th and returns on the 29th, just a few days short of the changes with Air Canada. I'm just shaking my head right now. I should have just forgt about the airmiles and gone with Westjet to begin with, it would only have cost me $600 more and I'm going to be spending at least half that on the kennel I now have to send my dog to.

Can't you still travel with the dog but use their regular service of him riding in the cargo? All this change does is allow the pet into the cabin. AC was still allowing people to bring pets along before.

We didn't want to put him cargo, not to mention they were going to charge us some kind of ridiculous amount, more than what it would cost to kennel him. There's sock puppets bigger than he is so to me it seemed a bit outrageous. *shrugs his shoulders* oh well, it was more the fact that they announced that you could take pets on as carry on just days after we booked the tickets and it was being allowed just days after we're scheduled to leave.

Didn't AC just make the change to not allowing pets like a few months ago?

That's a valid question, but I don't know. Assumably, animals and allergic passengers should meet eventually.

Westjet has been having problems. They just are not made very public.

I myself have had problems with a cat on one flight. I am very allergic to cats and can't even go into a house with a cat, even if the cat isn't there. The whites of my eyes swell up and it effects my vision for two or three days afterwords, making driving at times impossible. Fortunately after suffering through my flight someone was picking me up. If I needed a rental car I would have been in trouble.
