I bike home from work each day.

My wife makes this possible because we are able to commute together in the moring.

Since my wife's van seems to have a permanently mounted bike rack, I am considering mounting a $10 garage sale bike on it to ensure her license plate can never be caught on camera.

pretty subtle way to beat the camera, eh?

well....not really....

where's the fun in that?

:)

I have all cameras, plus mobile traps as well in my Garmin.

The police maybe say they have moved on, but its a fact they
habitually hit the same locations.

Oh and for free as well thanks :)

if the location is a good money producer, they will be back.

Exactly!

as long as the speedometer is not 100% effective, then there is no harm in doing a cost/benefit analysis on supplimental technology. A $200 device may be a money well spent for some people.

There is no arguing with that. but dont you think the media might want to make a big deal about a bicycle being the root cause to a fine?

The easy way to avoid speeding tickets is not to speed.

There was a time when I was young and impetutous and sped everywhere, but one day after watching an interview with a police officer about speeding, I timed my drive to work (a couple of days in a row), and on the days I did 20 over the limit, I got to work about 2 minutes faster than the days I just drove the limit.

Even driving to Calgary on the 2, the difference between doing 110 and 140 only adds up to maybe 10 or 15 minutes earlier in Calgary. Does anyone really need a milkshake from Peter's that badly?

I have no problem with real speed traps, where police officers pull you over and hand you a fine, because those have real consequences, like potentially higher insurance rates and the possibilbity of getting your license suspended. Tack onthe humiliation of sitting there while people drive by and laugh at you, and speed traps are relatively effective at curbing speeders.

The thing that pisses me off are photo radar tickets. Because they don't count against your insurance or license, it is really only a speeding tax. If you have lots of money, who cares if you get a $100 ticket once every month or so? IMHO, phoot radar should only be placed in high speed areas (70km/h +), like urban highways (Deerfoot, Whitemud, etc). If the speed limit is 50km/h, put a real trap and do some rel traffic enforcement instead of sending out a bunch of tickets to people who probably don't even remember the occasion.

It's a money grab for sure.
Thing is, the people who are getting caught are usually the ones never paying attention anyways.
