ziggy ziggy:
I'm sure it's serious but you have to be smart on the net.
If someone wants to hack your linux box they will.
When they get as widespread as windows i'm sure there will be more malicious code for them.
For this worm all you have to do is make sure your anti virus is up to date and your windows is also updated,if people cant be bothered to do that then they get what they deserve.
She is smart on the net and if you ever go to a "secure site" that has been victim of a DNS hack you would not stand a chance. because the address would be OK and even the HTTPS would be there. A simple keylogger type of malware and all the info that you type in your browser goes to a Russian Hacker.
BTW if they want to Hack my Linux box they sure can try

first they will have to find an open port but the firewall that come standard with Mandriva detect port scanning and then ban the IP. So yes indeed they can try....
On a second not for conficker C if your computer is already infected
you WONT be able to update your OS an your antivirus because it's block access to those DNS. So you would have to manually updated with a "clean" computer by transferring data over a network or USB key.
http://www.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/virus.aspx?id=77976And then you could very well compromise your network or you could even infect the "clean" PC with your now infected USB Key.
And that part of your comment is just untrue

Because if you are hit by a threat that has not yet been detected or counter either by Microsoft or your Anti-virus Program. You will end up in exactly in the same situation that my wife found herself 3 week ago along the thousand or hundred of thousand other Windows user.
