Aging_Redneck Aging_Redneck:
I know a guy here in Calgary that does radio installs on Tanks. I don't the details but he works for general dynamics.

Those "tanks" were probably LAV IIIs, Strykers, or British Challenger II tanks.

A little.

I remember as a little kid when we first bought the LAV IIIs the CBC reffered to them as "Tanks." I thought they were the funniest looing tanks I had ever seen, they appeared to be very top heavy, slow, small gun, and they had wheels, not tracks. I've since learned better. :P

General Dynamics is currently doing the re-building of LAV's in Edmonton.

The Liberals shouldn't be in a position to complain since they originally canceled the EH-101, which would've created Canadian jobs, and then did the same thing their accusing the Conservatives of.

E-101 would have created as many jobs as the C-17, which doesn't amount to much.

Any idea who the radio's were for then? Because I can't think of anything but the above mentioned vehicles when it comes to radio work in Alberta.

Are you talking about the IRIS system that was brought in? That was all designed and built here in Canada for the CF. Every type of radio I have used was built in Canada by GD.

Haven't got a clue dude. I'm going based off of what I know is happening with the Leopards and what Redneck said about radios.

Does GD do their radiowork in Calgary, or is that up in Edmonsuck along with the rest of the LAV upgrades?

Actually, Aging Redneck, ask your friend if the things he is installing radios in look like this:

Sorry guys. I am out of my league if you are asking me to tell the difference between one vehicle and another.

As far as I know,in Calgary:
- General Dynamics is installing electronics on vehicles of some sort. they also have some British military projects, too.
- Ratheon is doing some refurbishing of Sonar equipment for gun turrets for the big ships(note my savy use of military vocabulary ;-) ) Calgary is a darn strange place for this considering that we are land locked.
- Harris Canada is doing board level repairs for the CF-18 program.

I agree, as far as I have seen IRIS has been in every vehicle we have from Gwagon to Buffalo.

I get tired of the moiling of defense contracts for jobs. There should be some reasonable limit. After all Canada does defense work itself and needs foreign contracts in turn. We are something like 6th in defense exports, building various parts for other countries.
