Canada should have been smarter in the first place, instead of taking the easy route. It is never a good businessdecision to have all your business with 1 client. When that client goes bankrupt, or just bails out, you go down with them...

Trudeau tried to diversify our trade in the 70s, hoping to shift our reliance on the US to Europe and Asia, but most of our infrastructure is geared towards trade with the US. Most of our pipelines send oil south and west away from Alberta, towards Chicago, not to the Pacific or even Eastern Canada. Add on the Auto Pact, FTA, NAFTA, etc, and we're more connected than we've ever been.

There was talk of building a pipeline from Edmonton to Prince Rupert, but the $4 billion price tag slowed that down. As long as oil is $35 a barrel, it won't be built.

Well if the United States is buying more U.S. products and less Canadian Products. Canadian Companies and Government will start realizing they will have to act fast and save there industries because a large percent of buisness goes to the United States. 80% trade.

If building pipelines to Ontario or Quebec or even to the artic. Building haulers, etc is what is needed to begin large trade with the EU than that is what those companies and our government will start funding and do.

There is no way Canadian Companies or the Government would sacrafice there economy waiting for the U.S. to change there mind.

No we also export iron ore, nickel, zinc, copper, gold, lead, molybdenum, potash, diamonds, silver, fish, timber, wildlife, coal, petroleum, natural gas and hydropower.

Oil just happens to be the best economic booster.

We are really rich in natural resources which makes me wonder why our economy is so shit. If we were trading it the highest bidder, probally in the EU. Would could actually be whoring off our resources better. One trading partner = no room for price debating.
