lily lily: Yes, and the logical conclusion would be that my mum didn't give a damn about us, especially when something was hurting.
Stupid statement. I'm not here to be your therapist. You're gonna have to answer that question for yourself.

lily lily: CanadianJeff CanadianJeff: Frankly there's better ways to deal with it. Public awareness is one way. I like what my city did though. You can't smoke within 10 feet of any public building entrance or exit or any business that wishes to post such a declaration. Doing so results in a fairly hefty fine. One cannot also smoke in any bingo hall, liquor store, church, etc.
Saves me a LOT of hassle of trying to avoid second hand smoke. I used to love going to bingo with my dad but hated with a passion the second hand smoke. You're not allowed to smoke in parks or playing fields - within 30 or 60 feet of kids. Some people still do, but most respect the rules. I think there are fewer and fewer smokers now anyway. What I don't understand, is why "they" just don't make it illegal at all... You can't smoke in lots of places, its terribly bad for you, you get fined for smoking around minors in your car (but driving with a cell in your hand is fine...) yet you can still buy it. MAkes no sense to me...

Are smokers so selfish they can't go a few minutes without having to suck on a gager while their kids are stuck in the car with them?

RUEZ RUEZ: Back when I was a kid we didn't know any better when our parents smoked in front of us. We were kids, we didn't know they were giving us cancer. You must be a lot older than me then. I'm 40 and I knew, certainly by the time I was in Kindergarten, like 1972, that smoking was harmful. I remember making Anti-smoking posters with pencil crayons in grade 3. My parents knew it too and were both smokers that encouraged their children not to smoke. Did they smoke in the house? Yes, but not often when we were around. Did they smoke in the car? Yes, but rarely with kids in the car. Either way, EVERYONE today knows that smoking is dangerous and shouldn't be done around children. If anyone is TRULY that dumb that they think it's okay to smoke around their kids, then their genes are too dumb to want to protect.

Brenda Brenda: (but driving with a cell in your hand is fine...) It's not fine, but they don't make laws against it usually because they say it's included with the undue care and attention laws.

I HATE those stupid bitches (male or female) who get into their car, get on the phone, kids in the back, and are too busy dealing with those two things, to watch the road. Drive either too slow or too fast, swerve... Freakin dangerous. But no police car that stops them. And then stop a guy who smokes, so his carmate (15) can light one up?

hehe...they enacted no smoking laws here on January 11th and if you take a picture of someone smoking in a public place, restaurant, hotel or bar and send it to the government, you can get a reward.

No i'm 37 and I remember quite well that my mom smoked around us kids, she never gave it a second thought. Heaven forbid we should ask her not to smoke around us in her own car, we would have ended up with a nice smack for that. Never the less children today need protection and just because you don't think so, well it doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot.

I often fantasize about pulling up beside someone on the phone and layihng on my horn until they get pissed off.
