Tricks Tricks:
bootlegga bootlegga:
stokes stokes:
Well, then make debt repayment a part of the budget, that most people can understand there is no need for a surplus....ever

So then you want Harper to raise taxes to pay the debt down?

Make up your mind...

Yep. I would have liked him to take the massive surplus he inherited and put the vast majority of it towards the debt.

He did put that 20 billion surplus on the debt then he cut taxes as he should have, and the opposition just gave him shit shit and more shit, I say he did the right thing, but that is just my opinion

He used $10 billion or so (out of the $14 billion surplus) in 2007 to do just that. That saved us millions of dollars in 2008.

However, we didn't have a big surplus in 2008 because he cut taxes and increased spending, decimating the surplus, which meant virtually no debt repayment in 2008.

I love how this is a repeat of the 90's. Liberals had to clean up after the Conservatives, adn were ultimately pushed from power in the early 21st century. Now we're back to square one.

Now, now, be fair, a substantial portion of the debt was created in the 70s and early 80s by the Liberals under Trudeau.

The courts said they did not rob the EI fund but rather neglected to inform parliament they intended to lower the premiums 3 out of 10 times.

Chretien, Martin, and Harper were all perfectly justified in using money paid into the fund but deducted from federal income tax owing in general revenue.

By using that money to pay down the debt they saved every single Canadian money because they were also able to keep lowering income taxes.

You are welcome.

So he used the surplus to pay down the debt but then cuts taxes. So he cut taxes and increased spending.

We should have a fixed rate or flat tax, Let the Gov't cut the stupid programs to make up for the liberals dishing out our cash to people that aren't even Canadians.

I'm sick of paying for other peoples problems.

This going up and down with cuts and hikes is crazy. Fix the personal tax rate and cut the crap at the Gov't level.

if we do this the liberals will never have another thing to promise people.
