Yea, I understood it, we just don't use the : that way here. We use : more often in integer ratios than in general division (even though all divisions are ratios). Just a convention thing.

its not just kids though, I mean the people at work are talking about what they are getting their boyfriends and in some cases they are talking thousands of dollars.

I think they are all nuts. i've never had a complaint about a gift but I put a lot of time into thinking of the right gift for each person. like last year I spent maybe 30 bucks on material for a quilt i made for my best friend. and i know it was her favorite gift cause she still thanks me for it.

I believe we need to get back to the meaning of christmas and in giving gifts because we want to and not because we are obligated

but on the flip side i know people who renovate their kitchen BEACUSE its christmas and people are coming over to stay for the holidays... crazy bastards

Yes. It's their right of course, but I disagree with it.

I've always felt Christmas is more about family and getting together (no matter how much all those kids drive you crazy) than it is about fancy gifts.
