How many centuries of their history did they Ostrich and refuse to deal with the rest of the world because they were so narrow minded they refused to accept it? While I was taught to respect my elders, that dosen't apply to a country that would rather tripple it's defence industry instead of making it's milk and baby formula safer for it's own people.

dino_bobba_renno dino_bobba_renno:

Well I don't know about you but I'm the guy who has a 2 year old and a 6 year old who probably were using those said pacifiers. I figure that's sufficent ground for me to judge.

Sure. You have every right to guard the young'uns health.

My point is though that its not evil china poisoning children on purpose.

You old enough to remember the whole lead paint days of Canada not to mention asbestos, DDT, Thalidomide, etc.

We aren't so high and mighty is my thesis and all ridenhack ever does is bitch and moan about the chinese and demand all trade cease rather then work things through with them.

Our food is looking pretty suspect lately and we are several decades ahead of china in saftey protocols.

I'm not defending the bad things china does. I'm supporting their right to sort it out on their own just like Canada did despite all the bad things we did that nobody held us accountable for.

FIXED

What a crock of shit. We made our mistakes, and found out what these toxins do to children. Yet the Chinese are allowed to repeat these mistakes knowing full well the effects they will have??

Idiot....you likely support carbon credits for China and India too.

There's enough lead in one item to kill a child if swallowed.

Yeah, my crib probably had lead paint... but that was in the 60s. We've learned since then. Why hasn't China?

Thats the thing. We keep expecting everybody else to accept our versions of events and adhere to our standards and beliefs.

Perhaps its an unintentional or unforseen problem like the Listeria crisis? perhaps they simply haven't got the control or industry processes down to a science.

They are building industries we spent 70 years bulding or more. I used to have lead figurines that I got out of kinder eggs that I painted with lead based paints and thats was the early 80s.

Again, China is some 2 billion strong. We have trouble governing our country with our measely 32 mil.

Checks and controls are fine. China can understand that. Showing them proof their goods are dangerous is fine. China can understand that. Telling them to shape up is OK. China can understand that.

All the commie crying and hate that pricks like rr and sheepshit dish their way isn't. Its their country so they can sort it out. Lets just hope they do a better job then we did. Given that they are an fast emerging super power and the largest economy on earth I think getting their back up isn't in our best interest especially considering they aren't doing anything we didn't do in one form or another.

Expecting them to benefit and act accordingly on our past experience is like expecting children to do the same given theor parents previosu experience.

They will learn liek we did, like we all do.

BTW, thats a cute Avatar you got. Your daughter I take it?

We're talking about lead-based toys and pacifiers, Derby. There really shouldn't be anything to sort out now. If they want to keep making them, that's their business, wrong as it may be. But as ridenrain already mentioned - who's allowing them to be imported here and why can't they notice they contain lead?

Thats the thing. Its not as if they are deliberately doing it (as a country). Its quite easy to miss stuff like that. Our society does it all the time. Hell, well have well educated medical staff amputating the wrong limb.

Its not hard to understand. Chinas industrial revolution has rapidly evolved and far exceeded her capacity to train people. They have taken people working in rice paddies and trained them tom make toys with about as much training as you get at wallmart. Its a porblem, but a teething one. ridenhack doesn't suggest any solution other then our govt calling china a bunch of wankers and cutting all trade ties. Easy for him to say when he sits at home collecting govt dole but not so for the increasing numbers of canadians whos livelihood depend on trade.

lily lily:
Thank you. :D

Yes, that's my girl... I think it's a cute pic, but she doesn't like it.

I can't tell the age but I got nephews at 14, 12, and 10.

I understand what you're saying. I've seen neclaces at the Dollar Store clearly labeled as haivng lead in them. I'm not faulting the manufacturer so uch as the importers.

My daughter was 10 in the pic... she's 12 now.

So, I send photos and she takes her pick? Hoe does it work in our culture again?

That's a total load of crap Derby.

What new-fangled science tells us that mixing melamine in watered down milk will fool simple testing? China came out with a new standard for melamine in milk when anybody but a fool would ask why there's any melamine in milk in the first place.

This isn't like Japan, pushing cheap and shoddy goods. This is criminally dangerous counterfeits with no reguard for the health and safety of the customers. This is the sort of business of gangsters and anyone but a fool or an accomplice would excuse it.

There's a lawsuit going ahead in China now but the gangsters who run the country are trying t silence it. Parents of sick or murdered children are suing the companies involved but there is pressure to shut them down. These are the people you are supporting..

This isn't some moral relativity, this is the naked cutting edge of unregulated capitalism and the west shouldn't be their ginny pig untill they get it right.

Not even the most rutheless railroad tycoons in the worst days of cowboy capitalism would dilute milk then hide it with poison. These are the folks you are throwing in with.

You going down to the dollar store and buying lead soothers for you're kids?
Don't you think all Canadians should be protected from these kinds of dangerous products? Where do you find that high horse to to bitch about our mistakes when you're apologizing for criminal counterfeiting?

Only for the low guy in the party.

These lead products in Canada won't kill but will cripple or disable Canadians in such a way that the actual source might never be known. The Chinese make money, the importers make money and Canadins get sick children.

We at least have the choice to pay a little extra and exercise some diligence in our purchases. The Chinese consumer is screwed because they have a limited choice thanks to the FLP in power.

Even when a product is manufactured in China, or part of it is, this fact isn't always listed. 'Made in China', has become synonymous with 'Caution!! Toxic.'
