So what's changed? Harper know he's going to lose the election and will have to start paying for his gas himself. XD

He doesn't walk on water, Rev.

He's trolling in the same pond for votes as the other leaders.
The pond has a lot of retarded fish...and they all get a vote.

These dorkfish worry so much about gas price fixing, they tend to be
oblivious to other forms of non-competitive practises...whether
it's in food, phone and TV service providers, banking fees,
whatever...the gas pricing is only a reflection of a much larger
picture.

No. Instead he flip-flops in the mud like a dying perch.

He's had two and half years to do something. When he was in opposition, he used to scream bloody murder about the price of gas and wanted the GST taken off of it. Once he was in government he said there was nothing that could be done. Now there's an election and he's stealing planks from the NDP platform.

I count three flip-flops there.

robmik43 robmik43:
Seven different grocery stores in my area, were selling bananas
last week at 59 cents a pound. Three major corporations own all
the stores. NOT ONE was selling the bananas at 57 cents, or 55
cents....fixed ?....rigged ?
An eighth store was selling bananas at 49 cents, but they were already brown.
I noticed lean ground beef exactly the same price at five of the
stores....fixed ?....rigged ?

BTW, most of this info I got from flyers...gas is too expensive to
drive around comparing prices....oh yeah...gas was 13 cents a liter
cheaper in Owen Sound on Thursday than in Meaford....but the savings
would have been mostly offset by the 50km round trip to buy it. 8O

You don't have to drive at all, click on this link and find out gas prices in your city/town...

http://www.gasbuddy.com/

I do agree partially with Robmik that lots of corporations compare prices and try to lure customers away.

Computers, furniture, cars, etc are all subject to comparison shopping, and with the advent of the internet, it's easier than ever to find out what something costs at half a dozen stores nearby and go buy the cheapest one. Superstore for example has a display at the entrance with competitor prices, showing how they either mathc or beat them. If the commercials are accurate, then so does Fountain Tire ( but I hate those stupid commercials, so I buy mine elsewhere). The list goes on and on...

Harper is a consumate liar and manipulator. He has taken more than a few pages from the Bushco criminal regime. Look what is going on with Wall St. The 3 piece suits that have been aided and abetted by bush for the past 8 years are like pigs at a trough, and now they want a bailout for the better part of a billion dollars -when in fact they should all be looking for bail, including bush. Harper is a bush clone and falls over backwards for the big corps. He is a demagogue, he could care less about anyone who does not share his far right wing ideology, and will stop at nothing to get a majority. If harper had a majority in '03 we would not only be mired in Afghanistan, but also in Iraq - the guy is bad news from start to finish.

I never even heard about it, do ya have a link?

It was on CPAC, CBC and CTV around Sept 12 or 13. It was the same day that Harper admitted it looked like there was gouging going on, but didn't have an answer as to what he'd do about it. Am I the only actually following the election?

Anyway, I did a google and found you a link:
$1:
NDP Leader Jack Layton jumped on the issue as he unveiled a populist strategy to end consumer rip-offs, including what he called gouging at the gas pump.

"It's time somebody stood up to these companies and these gougers," Layton said, adding that Harper is more interested in giving tax breaks to oil companies than helping motorists.

Layton said an NDP government would create a price-monitoring agency to watch fuel prices, noting that the cost of a litre of gasoline has doubled in the past decade, pouring record profits into the coffers of the big oil companies.

So Layton is going to pay people to watch gas prices. Then what? He does realise he needs a step two right?

He's talked about that step two, as well, Q-Ball...in fact it was one of yesterday's topics and was continued today. It's not just gas prices either, it's consumer protection.

That would include credit card interest rates, bank fees, and the text message thing that Harper was talking about yesterday. Of course Layton was talking about the text message thing before Parliament rose last spring, and Harper refused to even acknowledge the issue.

Harper headed into this campaign without a platform. The whole thing was about bashing Dion. Now he's coming up with policies on the fly...stealing from the other parties. I doubt he'll institute any of it unless forced to by the other parties.

Help me out here, because I still don't see what step two is (I don't see it on the NDP website and I'm not going to hunt through every thread trying to find it), and try and focus on gas prices as the rest of your post is a red herring. Step 1 is to pay people to watch gas prices. Step two, the most important one (the one where real action occurs), is...

Rev...You want 'consumer protection' the NDP way ?
You won't get it.

A certain country we all know, had 'consumer protection' from
Lenin, right up until Gorbachev. How'd that work out ?

I'm not going to do your homework for you, QBall. The NDP is talking about a consumer protection agency that would deal with more than just gas prices. I suggest you check the news sites for the details.

Robmik, that's so incredibly lame that only a little nazi like Harper could come up with it. You really wanna play this game?

Well you see blair old boy this is a thread on gas prices, and Layton's little group of paid bureaucrats who are gonna sit and watch gasbuddy.com was presented by you as the NDP's answer to gas price fixing. Now even a mouse that's been dead for two weeks would have enough common dog to realize that's about as useful as swabbing the injection site with alcohol for someone who is about to be executed by lethal injection. You keep claiming that there's more to this plan yet can provide no further proof besides red herrings. Since this is the standard NDP tactic to indicate "We've actually got nothing" I'll assume you're done.

Well, Q-Ball, my lad, it's really not up to me to do your homework for you. Who did you get to do that for you in high school by the way?

The NDP are not the Conservatives. They don't write policy half-way through an election to buy votes. They want to institute a consumer protection agency to deal with a variety of concerns. Gas prices is one of those concerns.

Since you apparently haven't learned how to use Google...possibly because you depend on others to do your homework...I've found some links.

There's plenty more out there, including the details that have been released so far (it'll be fleshed out with the fully costed platform) and I expect you'll reform your recalcitrant study habits and take the time to educate yourself.
