This news flash from the greens in strange in another way. Aside from their usual far left "soldiers are evil" mantra, they have never commented on military matters before, and I doubt their core followers do either. I think they were fed this story by the Libs (who probably made this contract with China) so the greens would appear to have a more varied and full slate, not just green issues. It's probably a good knife but it would be the last knife I'd think of for military issue, expecially when you already have a bayonet and a multi-tool. Do any forces folks have experience with this, and what they use them for? It's probably the last choice for cutting parachute lines. Some kind of hook knife would be better.

I dont like them I went and bought my own knife as did most of the guys I work with. The main issue I had with it is that once the leather became worn you could not close the damn thing and your knife fell out all the time.

stokes stokes: 1. If the knives bought elsewhere are better and cheaper than so be it! They won't be. Chinese knives are terrible pieces of shit. Some companies have switched to china to making their knives, and there product has dropped is quility.

karra karra: Geez, don't suppose the knives the Greenie-weenies are complaining of are considered substandard - naturally (so to speak) they would rather send our troops 'chuting with pansies or daffodils or even mums. . . . Grohmann knives are not substandard, they are just not made for what they are being used for. Again, Ka-bars would be fine for what they are being used for. DND clearly doesn't know jack about knives.

C.M. Burns C.M. Burns: WTF happened to this country that we can't make a knife suitable for the job for a good price? There are few companies in Canada that make knives. There are individual makers in Canada, but none of them can support our military. We'd be better off just going to Ka-bar, or something similar.

Cold steel is ok, but it's got a bad rap amongst the knife community.

I liked it, easy to sharpen and it kept it's edge well. I think the military when with the groh because it was Canadian and they had to spend money on a Canadian product.

I never had to use my knife for anything besides opening rations, cutting explosives and cutting 550 cord. The issued one probably would have worked just as well but I didnt trust it, and I thought I was going to loose it in a month or two.

No doubt. What kind of steel is it? It looks like a military classic, but those are made out of San mai now, and no way in hell you got san mai for 70 bucks unless you were born with a horseshow shoved up your ass.

C.M. Burns C.M. Burns: stokes stokes: Did anyone else notice that she only complained about military equipment/ contracts that directly affect her riding. This is the first paragraph of the article: "Green Leader Elizabeth May is asking Defence Minister Peter MacKay why his department has dropped a knife supplier based in his own riding in favour of one in China." It's not her riding, it's McKay's riding - the Defence Minister. Wake up... It's the riding May is "contesting" in the upcoming election.. [with no Liberal candidate, courtesy Monsieur Dion]..therefore, for purposes of identifying with "her" constituents, and securing that critical unemployed-knife-maker demographic, she brought up this topic.

I was going to suggest something like the US M9 that could also work as a knife but do you guys even carry the bayonets any more?
Ontario cutlery makes some wonderful products and the name might even fool the Greens into thinking their Canadian.

Should have gone with a Ka-bar, could get one for like 30 bucks that would do all that easily. If you lost it, not a big deal.

Ontario is in dispute with Randall adventure training right now over the "R.A.T." name. Randall's products in my opinion are far superior, but Ontario's aren't bad. They can definitely find better though for cheaper however. For what knives are used for in the military, Ka-bars are the best choice. They are cheap, but they are reliable.

Knife makers won't vote for her regardless of what she said. The majority are pretty hardcore conservatives, and will never vote green or NDP.
