ManifestDestiny I am sure the American media is saying the US military is the best in the world now that is a half truth. If you actually saw what your military was like in the real world compared to other developed countries like Britain, France, Germany and Canada you would be scratching your head. Its true America has a lot of expensive toys but when it comes to training and tactics the states falls a little short. Now I am not saying the US military sucks, far from it. PEN can agree with me, if we got into a tick, one of the best things in the world to hear was an Apache overhead. If we were injured fast air black hawks came in and picked us up saving our lives.
The other side of the coin is that when you are told "if possible do not drive across river beds they are more than likely mined" and your convoy drives through 100 meters of dried river bed destroying 3 hummers and a JRRV. Then calls the Canadians to recover them, you have pretty much lost your bragging rights. Most people would have stopped when the first vehicle was hit, the Americans kept on driving.
When I found an IED so we called EOD to recover it, so they could ******** *********. The Canadian EOD was busy so they flew out American EOD. Now I uncovered this bomb with only a frag vest and helmet and a mine detector, and we made sure that it could not be detonated remotely. All the US EOD team was supposed to do is disarm it and carry it away, an easy 45 min job. Instead they got out the robot, which broke down twice to the bomb, planted a block of C4 and blew it up. That took them 2 ½ hours, I could have done that myself in 5+ min.
