The melt season is not over, we will have to watch to see if this year will be the lowest arctic ice coverage in the satelite era, and this is somefow spun into good news. Unbelievable.

Will 2008 also break the standing record low, set in 2007? We will know in the next several weeks, when the melt season comes to a close.
This was from the Aug.26 press release by NSIDC. The exact same press release that the author of is alluding to.

Well Ziggy, the author of the article is appealing to the NSIDC as the experts on the suject. He is using their data to back up his assertion. So they are either correct or they are full of shit, which is it ?

In either case the posted article is obviously bogus since the author decided to pick and choose which aspects of the press release were valid, when he is not an expert at all.

All I can tell you is that it starts freezing in september and environment canada has records in their archives from back in the 1940's that will back that claim up.

Plus we leave there in september for a reason, the daily blizzards make doing anything impossible.

I certainly can't dispute that. My only point is that the person who wrote the posted article completely misrepresented the facts as they were presented by nsidc. I am aware that as far as arctic experience goes, you probably have more than any poster here.

This whole thread is based on the results presented by NSIDC, whom had indicated that this years results are a cause for alarm.

The author of the article used those same results and tried to present them as proof that there is little to worry about.

The article is completely disingenuous.
