Liberal MP Robert Thibault has apologized for suggesting this week that his Conservative rival is too old to be taken seriously.
Thibault says he didn't mean to suggest anyone over 60 is too old for politics.
In an interview with a Halifax newspaper Tuesday, the Nova Scotia MP said 60-year-old Greg Kerr, who came within 512 votes of beating him in 2006, might be better off going into retirement.
The Conservatives say Thibault's comments showed a shocking contempt for Canada's seniors.
But Thibault says his statement was directed only at Kerr, who is running against him in the West Nova riding.
In a letter from his office, Thibault says he's sorry if he offended anyone.
