Dion hasn't even gotten out of the gates with this carbon tax

and

by promising income tax reductions, he's already admitted that some of the revenue will be going towards buying people's votes instead of the envirement.

this carbon tax is about as phoney as the road tax, or the sin tax on gambling.

might as well use this thread for something.

Then And Now: GST, Carbon Tax

Sept. 23, 1989: The GST is "an attack on the weaker regions of the country, regressive, against the lower income groups, invisible, sneaky and of course ... an administrative nightmare." — Liberal Leader John Turner

Nov. 28, 1989: "Mr. Speaker, the goods and services tax is a stupid, inept and incompetent tax." — Liberal MP Paul Martin

Oct. 29, 1990: "I am opposed to the GST. I have always been opposed to it, and I will always be opposed to it. It is a tax that is both regressive and discriminatory." — Liberal Leader Jean Chretien

Nov. 19, 1990: "We will continue to oppose the GST and the tax won't be long in place when the Liberals win the next election." — Opposition Leader Herb Gray

1993 — Liberal Party Red Book: "A Liberal government will replace the GST with a system that generates equivalent revenues, is fairer to consumers and to small business, minimizes disruption to small business, and promotes federal-provincial fiscal co-operation and harmonization."

Nov. 1, 2007 — The Canadian Press: [Liberal Leader] Stephane Dion's suggestion that he might one day increase the goods-and-services tax had some of his Liberal troops shaking their heads Wednesday.

Part 2 — Then & Now: Carbon Tax

2006 — Stephane Dion's Leadership Platform: "A carbon tax is less effective than a carbon market at reducing emissions. Some of my opponents for the Liberal leadership have suggested that a carbon tax would be the most effective measure to curb climate pollution. This is simply bad policy, for the following reasons ..."

March 2, 2007 — The Globe: Carbon tax a possibility, Dion confirms after Conservative attack

March 6, 2007 — The Globe: Dion's plan won't call for carbon tax, office says

Oct. 10, 2007: "Let me give you the two bottom lines of this plan: there will be no carbon tax and the money will stay in Alberta." — Liberal Leader Stephane Dion

June 19, 2008 — Dion sets table for epic policy battle with $15.4-billion carbon tax plan

Middle class Canadians, especially ones without the option of public transit, etc. will LOSE.

If what the middle class does for a living was not so polluting, it would not mind living next door to its workplace.

My favorite part of this whole thing is when Dion got up and stated that the highest income bracket will not receive any reductions under this plan but yet when you go the thegreenshift.ca website and punch in that you make 160 grand a year ( I put in that I was single and had no kids) it tells you that you will receive $1172 in tax credits.

Maybe the guy who designed the site forgot to talk to Dion before he made that calculator.

And if bananas came filled with ice cream we would have no need for banana splits.

Polluters will lose in very limited terms but gain in a more significant sense.

Oh the IRONY.

Let's point out something to all you guys with little CPC logos next to your avatar.
Anything that moves taxation from income to consumption is good conservative policy.
Therefore, income tax cuts coupled with the proposed carbon tax is good conservative policy
So the Liberals seem to know conservative policy much better than El Harpo and gang who reversed an income tax cut and cut GST instead.

Like I said, the irony.....

The other choice is the absurd $50 a ton Green proposal or the embarrassing joke of the (no - no -deny) plan that Harper offers.

But there's an amazing lot of people who will never notice extra cash in there pocket because something's biting their hand a little right fucking now, and are incapable of ever seeing a bigger picture. And Harper's very good at playing to the dumbed-down.

Care to explain how honest and accountable the Liberal will be to a carbon tax, when they are already promising to use it to play games with the income taxes?

Where I work, the employees DO live next door.

Middle class Canadians should just give Dion and his merry band of crooks the bird next election for trying to perpetuate yet another scam on the working people and families of this country.

We've have already rejected Paul Martin, and PM was 10 times the leader that Dion is. Plus, Dion has failed to rebuild his party.
