I wonder if the folks from the disbanded Airborn regiment would agree with you and the Liberal vision of Canada.
I wonder if the folks from the Airborne regiment consider themselves from the Airborn regiment?
I'm not going to pretend that I thought that move was wrong. It was. I will point out that for a gov't in debt and looking to cut programs, a unit displaying outright open hostility towards the governing party (by their admission) and suffering the PR crisis it was certainly did itself no favours.
The problem always is you point to every single Liberal military failing (even those justified) while ignoring the CPCs.
You consider the 93 Liberals to be military traitors because they didn't commit more money to the military then you are currently lauding from Harper.
Harper has vastly more money to put into the military yet all we hear are broken promises, lack of fuel reports, no SAR aircraft and reports that 3 of 3 expensive aircraft are sitting on the tramac.
You are a hypocrite who went from crucifying the Liberals for lack of military spending (when they had no money to do so) to supporting Harpers tightening the purse strings when he has loads on money to do so.
Chretien cut the military budget to defeat the deficit.
Harper is doing so because he wants to cut taxes and win votes.
That's just you're charactor assasination of me. As I have praised Chretin for doing the right thing by putting us into the justified and legal NATO fight in Afghanistan, other Liberals have stood up and done the right thing on a number of issues too. It's just that party loyalty prevents them from voting or speaking out, and this is a problem that affects all parties also. The original plan was well done and the balance of support and force was correct.
We play party games with defence spending and I'd like to see that ended but that's how the system works in Ottawa. Liberals now want a larger navy so they can cash in on the "support the troops" line but not support the war in Afghanistan. The CPC must work hard to ensure the war in Afghanistan succeeds so they want army funding. The bottom line is what matters is the mission and since it was developed by both parties, it should be supported by both parties.
I wish Canadians were more partriotic like the Brits and that we could stop playing political games when bigger tasks are at hand.
I imagine that anyone from the Airborn ever forgets or regrets becomming the best of the best. Politics and political corectness aside, they were the best at what they did and if people didn't like what they did then they haven't a clue what an army is.
