A former co-worker wife used to live in Venezuela. She ended up leaving with him to America, but her family stayed behind. As time went on, he kept on saying how one of her uncles had to give up a factory for the socialist revolution. He also had to put a house under he sister's name, because nobody was allowed to own more than one house because that would be greedy.
When the wife was expecting a baby, she wanted her mom to be there to see it being born. This required a trip to the US embassy. There was an incredibly long line going blocks for people trying to claim asylum in the US. They had to provide countless documents to ensure that she wasn't just going to stay in the country after the visa expired, because it happened so many times before.
Last I heard, 2 years ago, her mother was complaining about how there was no milk or vegtables in the stores. Crime was bad, but it always was. I hope that she might be able to live in the US and escape that "socialist paridise".
The Statue of Liberty says bring us your tired and your poor. I know that we have room, lets get them here and get them employed and making a life for themselves.
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
Kinda doesn't go with modern thinking right now of most of the people here in the US. People of both parties also. Most politicians have their private thoughts and talk publically another way. The people themselves I think are mostly against opening the flood gates. There is so much wealth here in the US I just think we can get them here we can make them good members of society paying taxes and contributing instead of being a net drain, then we all benefit. I know that flies in the face of my conservative roots although I also preached helping the poor, and until a few months ago I didn't want the immigrants here unless they came in legally. I do however insist that they be net contributers to society and not takers only.

Most of the ones I see are extremely hard working and nice people. If you go to any country just to take and to make it shape to your life and not want to learn it's traditions and culture and only simmer in your own culture and traditions, then you need to stay home.
