I don't think it's a cost issue. In the whole scheme of things, $500 a shot isn't all that much. How many HNICs are there a year 40 - 45 in the regular season? Even ifthey have another 60 in the playoffs, that's only about $50,000 +. Something tells me that one 30 second ad on HNIC pays at least that much (especially in the playoffs).
Still, it'll be sad to see it go. Wonder what the replacement will sound like...

I am not a big hockey fan myself, but I love that theme song. Whenever I hear it, it brings memories of everyone clustered around the tv, all hyped up getting ready to watch the game. It totally captures the excitement. It is an Iconic themesong, and it is stupid to get rid of it.

Some of my best times were Saturday 8pm in Hudson, QC. Got a case of Molson Ex at my feet and 10 - 12 friends getting ready for HNIC.

This is an outrage. That theme is second to our anthem as far as I'm concerned.
Wow--I didn't see that coming at all. Good snag by CTV. I wonder if they're paying $500 a shot.

CTV probably doesn't care how much it costs. They probably realized that Canadians would come running to them and watch them and trust them if they landed the Hockey Theme. It's simply a strategic move by CTV to increase support and build their audience numbers. The additional money that will come flowing in from landing the Hockey Theme probably offsets/will offset the cost of playing it.
