Well next week we shall see how the US team does when the torch is staged through San Francisco. This seems to be a new and popular olympic event.

For once this is a protest I'd actually join in with if given the opportunity.

How China gets away with being such a repressive regime is down to pure greed by the West. Our governments and corporations are quite happy to exploit the cheap labour available in China and basically avert their gaze to the nasty shit the PRC does to it's own citizens.

Europe is doing the same towards Putin's Russia. Give us gas and we won't say too much about the dictatorship that's replaced the USSR.
Wooooot! America, FUCK YEAH!

China is obviously guilty of egregious human rights abuses, but we all contribute to its current economic boom by being conscious consumers of the world's new workshop.

The best part of the current protests was the dude that whipped out the fire extinguisher!

I still wonder whether its worth it to boycott the games or not

Man I'd feel for the athletes if that course is taken.

I'd rather see a boycott on the opening ceremonies.

Nice post Mustang.

China never should have been given the games. Someone was thinking with their wallet and not their heart. I agree that it's unfair to to all the folks who worked so hard to train for this but I wonder what China would do if most of the western teams wore Tibet t-shirts (made in CHina, of course).

There is something I don't get.

Whenever they show footage on TV, there are some protesters being dragged, hit, kicked and even some with bloody noses. Now, for example, in London, it seemed as though it got a little violent. And the fact that they are protesting for someone else's cause, since these were local London folks and not Tibetans themselves.

Now, surely they want to display their miscontent about the Tibet situation. And that's cool. Btw, there is such a thing as freedom to protest in the West, and I am not against that. Simply in the way those protests are being organized.

Taken that it's ok to express their opinions, but to the point of getting physical, sometimes it seems a bit of an exaggeration. Although, it would seem that there are other ways to protest and still get their point across.

Yeah I thought that was effective too. Too bad he missed!

Give the French their credit, the cops had to snuff the flame 6 times last count.

So far the French are the leaders but San Francisco is warming up. A protest banner got hung on the Golden Gate bridge today. I expect San Francisco to do us proud.

I expect the blue/white suited Chinese thugs escorting the flame to get their butts kicked properly.

When I heard the news of the paris protests, I hummed the Marsellaise.......

"Allons enfants de la patria...........Aux armes citoyens........"

$1:
French President Nicolas Sarkozy told reporters Tuesday it was sad spectacle, but that protests are normal in a democratic country.

The trend on the news would indicate that the international leg(s) of the torch run will be cancelled. Media censorship including blocking CBC, BBC will keep the PRC public in the dark.

And now maybe you'll understand why they didn't let themselves get dragged into your country's Rape of Iraq.
I thought this was about China not Iraq.

However, Streaker can only contribute blind anti-americanism to discussions. Without it, he would never be able to post a thing. He would be lost for words.

China`s government is balls, everyone knows it. Chinese people at an extremely low wage. Not fair. But how many people would be willing to pay like 30 bucks for a pair of socks?
