For me, when a once healthy and vibrant person loses their mind and turns into a mere shell they have outlived their time on earth, we have made great strides in medical science but at what cost.

In June 1998, Heston was elected president of the National Rifle Association, for which he had posed for ads holding a rifle. He delivered a jab at then-President Clinton, saying, "America doesn't trust you with our 21-year-old daughters, and we sure, Lord, don't trust you with our guns."

Great man he was.

A great actor has gone to where Moses is now

It is too bad he was working for a lobbygroup that promoted guns in a society.

I have no problem with a person like a farmer or a policeman having a gun or using a gun, but I strongly feel that not everybody should have a gun such as what is promoted in the USA.

I remember a lot of his films, from Ben Hur, to The Omega Man, to the Planet of the Apes.
A strong presence on the screen.
Hopefully, he will be forgiven up in heaven for his pro-gun views.

Not only a great actor but a man of great character.
He had the grit to stand up to his convictions rather than emote a self-loathing, victimised sheeple.

There is nothing to forgive about having apoint of view, too bad you won't for your Librano, intolerant and idiotic comments. Unforunately, yours are are not the only moronic and narrow minded comments about Mr. Heston. Mr. Heston was a principled and ethical man, bigger than life and more than a great presence on the screen. He will be missed for more than his hollywood persona by many.

"....Off the screen, Heston was known as a champion for civil rights and often spoke out against the evils of racism. In a radical move for the time in 1961, Heston joined a picket line outside of a movie theater premiering one of his films because the theater segregated its audiences. He also accompanied Martin Luther King Jr. in the civil rights march held in Washington, D.C. in 1963."

"..."Many homosexuals are hugely talented artists and executives... also dear friends. I don't despise their lifestyle, though I don't share it," Heston stated. "As long as gay and lesbian Americans are as productive, law-abiding and private as the rest of us, I think America owes them absolute tolerance. It's the right thing to do."

Even Gaywired.com had a hard time bashing him (as above)as he lived a life far less ordinary thn any of us!!

I think it is sick when all of these so called "tolerant" liberals wish Heston died sooner than he did. Most of you have no clue what he did for the civil rights movement. He changed when he saw that it all got hijacked.

But of course he was for the RIGHT to bear arms so you all hate him. I will say the same as him you will only get my gun from my cold dead fingers!!!!!!!

I guess you guys are only tolerant when it fits your agenda.

By the way I am an endownment member of the NRA. Just got my 2 and a half year old son a lifetime membership!
RIP Mr. Heston

Not all of us said that.

I think it was just one.

Ok I will say all of the stupid things being said here are not very "tolerent"

His best qoute and I think how many Americans feel

"...the God fearing, law-abiding, Caucasian, middle- class Protestant-or even worse, evangelical Christian, Midwestern or Southern- or even worse, rural, apparently straight-or even worse, admitted heterosexuals, gun-owning-or even worse, NRA-card-carrying, average working stiff-or even worse, male working stiff-because, not only don’t you count, you are a down-right obstacle to social progress. Your voice deserves a lower decibel level, your opinion is less enlightened, your media access is insignificant, and frankly, mister, you need to wake up, wise up, and learn a little something from your new-America and until you do, would you mind shutting up?"

A man is morally free when, in full possession of his living humanity, he judges the world, and judges other men, with uncompromising sincerity. --George Santayana

Mr. Heston continues to slence his critics even in death. He will be missed.

Since you said something stupid I will too.

I hope you get robbed at gun point, pistol wipped by a criminal with a illeagal pistol. Then the cops show up well after he has fled the scene. never catch him. cause truth be told they could care less about you and what happened. They are worried more about finishing their shift!
And then that God forgives that criminal for robbing and beating you up! ANd the cops for truly not giving a shit!

Condemning "intolerance" and then turning around and hoping for violence upon someone else for their personal opinions.

You proved my point that if I write something like this I get called an idiot by someone like you. But its ok that a liberal says something idiodic about a conservative thinker.
