We (the west) are screwing ourselves by continuing to trade with and support the current regime in China. China is poised to become a superpower, and they will have huge economy and population at their disposal.

Some people might think the US is doing a bad job as the world's superpower, but I would take them any day over China, who has already shown the world their inhumane methods many times.

Hey jerk!!
What do you know about China??????

Only what Chairman Mao wants us to know.

And you only know about us what Chairman Mao wants YOU to know. Tibetans spreading AIDS, that's a good one.

They must have like a whole bunch of people googling for this stuff at the ministry of party truth or something. The last party communication must have been about the AIDS bull.

There is a lot of anti-Tibetan racism propping up the Chinese government's policy toward Tibet. I talk regularly with a guy who lives in China, and he says these sorts of things too, saying Tibetans are stupid and incapable of being educated, and that they might as well give up because China is more powerful.

To be quite honest, the Dalai Lama does not care if Tibet is a part of China or not, he just wants his people to be treated fairly and to not have his country overrun by government-mandated population influxes from China.

Hehe, people can say all they want and protest, but it amounts to nothing. The West has already chosen that cheaper products is more important than Tibet. And to be honest, it's too late to change anything. The price was paid when we wanted to split the Communist movement between the Soviet Union and China.

The best hope for the Tibetians would be general unrest elseware in the country. That should occur once the economy slows rapidly, though the government does find ways to maintain that growth.

What would probably help, as unfortunate as it would be, is to goad the Chinese into doing something truly horrible to Tibetan protesters, to the point where the world can't turn a blind eye.

The only difference I see between China and the massive protests over South African apartide is that China has a better PR image.

On the contrary - if these spammers continue they subtract from China's image. I was all set to let the Dali Llama speak for himself because he is very good at it. But that AIDS B.S . just convinced me that China will say and do whatever it takes to get their way. It reeks of the 'when did you stop beating your wife' type of fallicy.

They had 6 years to deliver on the promises they made when they were awarded the games. All they have done us used the games as a PR stunt, not as a catalyst for real change. They sow what they reap.

During Mao's great leap into famine, there were countless British and western media personalities that would deny or minimize any criticism, even in the face of direct evidence.
They would print glowing articles of the vast improvements made by the chairman and useful idiots would write songs about him and buy shitty T-shirts with his face on it.
Now that the truth has come out, he's among the top 3 mass murderers in the world, yet still many people still believe the lies.

That wouldn't matter. The world wouldn't not even care. Case in point, Darfur. Sudan is China's colony, and nobody wants to piss China off by intervening. What makes you think the world would do anything about Tibet?

DrCaleb, it's more about the economic influence that dictates what action will occur. South Africa is insignificant in the global economy. China plays a huge part in it.
